Surge of power n54 running MHD

Hey, check my mods in the signature but basically I'm getting a big surge in power around 4000rpm. It's a real punch as the turbos wind in, a bit like an old 90s turbo car. Anybody have any ideas what it might be?

I'm wondering if I need to put something like a Kompact Dual Port KIT in?

So you don't want a surge of power?

May I recommend a 328i?

Not sure why you think a BOV kit will fix this issue..??

When mine started doing that I replaced the boost solenoids; problem solved.

A log will tell us for sure though. Maybe try presenting us with that information instead.

Ha. Very good.
No, I don't want a surge of power, I want progressive, controllable power, and a lot of it.
Like I said, it reminds me of an old 90s turbo at he moment. I actually managed to tune my old 1997 Volvo 850R to deliver power smoother than my 335i and that used to give standard 335is a run for their money.

I will. I've got a bunch of logs on datazap but it doesn't really show up on WOT. It's more if you're around mid throttle and the just put on another 5-10% on the pedal

It's probably tune related. Have you tried a different tune? As in something not OTS in MHD.

On the MHD threads I wasn't getting many people saying that but yeah I did think it may be related. I'm assuming going by your name, this is something you can help with? I have a really nice stage 1 Hartge Map which is smooth as silk and could be modified for my mods

I did wonder, only on the MHD threads no one was really pointing to the tune so I wondered if there was something hardware related. I have a really nice stage 1 Hartge Map as mentioned above, but it's only stage 1. I wonder if that can be tweaked for my mods. I've got a copy of tuner pro, but have only tinkered with basic torque limits in the past.

Not sure what version you have but I had the same issue in 5.1 until I loaded 7.1 for me it is exactly what you are looking for very strong linear power. Great description you gave like a 930 turbo when it finally got spooled up slammed your head against the head rest gave a new meaning to the Porsche philosophy of handling a corner "slow in fast out."

Haha. ye you remember them too lol. A friend had a 944 and that was the same. I had one of those Fiat Coupe 20v Turbos back in the 90s too, wheelspin city.

I'm running the 7.1 which is way smoother than the 5 and 6 versions, but just has this surge issue. Marshal did suggest reverting right back to stock map and doing a full re-instal which I haven't tried. I'll give that a go.

It is considered normal or of no issue depending on if you owned a previous car that had similar shootout on power especially Honda V-Tec lol

Those who like to go to track courses don't like it as it can be dangerous, those who, well, race in a straight lines it has its pros

I didn't even realize it was a MHD OTS map you were talking about as there was no mention in the OP and I wasn't paying attention to your sig and those things are not always up to date.

You would need to reach out to WedgePerformance, I usually don't comment on MHD OTS map concerns which are addressed by WedgePerformance and MHD on the MHD threads.

I just tried the Stage 1 + FMIC v7.1 tune and it is as smooth as butter on my car. Almost makes the car seem slow. I have a e30 tune that feels more like a 150 shot than boost kicking in.

Haha. Yeh I buy BMW to avoid those non progressive drives. Right now my car is not a BMW lol.

Marshal, who is at wedge or MHD said to try flashing back to stock and then reinstall.

I'll try that, otherwise I'll be looking at a custom map, maybe based on my stage 1 bin file which is smooth as silk.

This is the thing. Both the factory tune and my stage 1 custom tune have no shot/kick/boost problems, just a nice progressive and linear throttle response which gives you complete confidence in the car. The last thing I want is a weird surge of power when accelerating out of a corner.

I've got brand new turbos in mine, fitted in August this year.

I'm going to check charge pipe, but I don't get any boost error codes, or any error codes for that matter

Feel free to send me a log. WedgePerformance@gmail.com

Include a screenshot of the MHD store page with VIN and ROM version. Do a 3rd gear pull from 2500 to 7000.

The v7 maps are some of the smoothest most refined driving maps we have done. If there's an issue we should be able to get it resolved quickly.
