I was thinking 'Fred' personally, but I like that name. Are they edible?
I don't eat pork. I'd like to (eventually) raise a cow...for milk and eventually meat. I feel that I would chicken out at the last minute and be unable to eat it due to an emotional attachment. Then again, I've had some pretty delicious steaks.... |

The amount of food you feed your pet will be much greater than the amount of food you will get from it so the return on investment is quite poor.
I would suggest getting a plastic plant named Alan and buying a nice pack of Ribeye for yourself. |

Yeah, depending on the type, they will have edible fruit/flowers/leafs. You could just sneak a nibble.... |

We have lots of pet cacti in the back yard. Went out Saturday night as I was prepping the grill for tri-tip, and just cut a few leaves off. Wife knifed off the stickers and we threw directly on the grill. Love me some nopales.
And yes, they do grow those prickly pears, but I don't care for them much. |

Kinda like a slimy celery, but with a zing.
Once they start to grow, it's pretty difficult to kill. The patch we took from Saurday, I went out with a machete and chopped down from about 7 feet to around 3.5 feet, straight across. All that did was prompt a whole bunch of new growth of the small, edible leaflets. |

My mother brought one back as a souvenir when I was a kid, that thing lived for years. We watered it maybe two, three times? As plants go that is about as low maintenance as it gets.
Higher maintenance but way cooler, consider a venus fly trap. |

Chickens. Eggs and meat. Yum. A friend of mine in Carrollwood has a coop in his back yard with 5 chickens. It takes up a 5' x 7' piece of his back yard. He gets at least 5 eggs a day. (he's got 5 kids so they eat them)

Gf wants a pet pig. I'm thinking hell no.
Cactus plants are very resilient. Keep it in the dark for months with barely any water and it'll survive. I water mine once a week (just a bit) and it's pretty healthy right now. |
