Adding arm rest USB to Combox / CIC
Hi all,
I'm hoping someone can help me - I'm confusing myself every time I read more on this subject. I have a 02/10 build car with factory fitted professional CIC. I have AUX in the arm rest and the USB in the glovebox (for nav updates etc) I have just purchased a Combox on the forum, and I am trying to find out which additional parts I need to buy to enable me to add a USB/AUX port in the arm rest to replace the AUX one I currently have? I have read conflicting information stating that a part revision took place & sometimes the AUX element of the USB/AUX port no longer works? If anyone knows the correct BMW part numbers I need, I would be very grateful! Ideally I am looking for the part number for the following: USB/AUX port for arm rest and any cabling required to run from the new port back to the Combox |

Excellent, I've done some more reading since posting & I may be correct in assuming that on cars WITHOUT factory USB (option 6FL) the arm rest AUX goes to the headunit, and not the Combox.
If that is the case, I assume there will not be an issue? So with that in mind, what parts do I actually require to add the USB arm rest to my incoming Combox? |

you dont mention what you're replacing. im guessing you're doing MULF to Combox.
its not a parts revision, you just plain don't need the aux connector anymore. I dont think it even plugs into anything. i cant remember if mine did. what you need to do is work out where the arm rest usb goes. if its boot, you're laughing, if its up front, you'll need to reroute the cable, or get the 10m one off ebay and route that. you're also going to need to do the cable adaptor from Mulf Connector to COMBOX. easy to do. you need to find the CIC/Combox retrofit threads where he does exactly this and look for the one with the green connector. you need to source that connector and then swap pins from old loom into that connector. unless ive totally misunderstood what you're doing. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/For-BMW-CI...AAAOSwRgJXjxkV I think thats the cable I used. http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=772784 tcu to combox. some part numbers. converter wiring. http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=723325 Last edited by bytejunkie; 10-24-2016 at 07:57 AM.. |

I have a TCU with CIC Profesional Nav - no USB in armrest, only AUX IN. I have bought a Combox media, and it comes with the adapter harness - although it was being used with a MULF, so it will need to be re-pinned to suit TCU replacement, which I will have done by Craig (Wibbles) who is also fitting / coding it for me. ![]() As my car does not have USB, only AUX IN, my understanding is that the AUX IN goes directly to the HU, not back to the TCU or to the new Combox - so I assume this will continue to function as normal after the Combox retrofit? I may be wrong though? I want to change the armrest AUX IN to AUX IN / USB for use with apps, and to charge my iPhone etc - so I have bought a new port to be fitted into the armrest. I'm pretty sure this is just connected directly from the arm rest to the new Combox in the boot floor? I have bought one which also includes the intermediary cable, as I have read that this is needed to allow the USB extension cable to fit correctly (?) ![]() I will also be ordering this extension cable which is 2.3m long, so hopefully that will be long enough? ![]() |

Is there a part number for that cable?
I'm guessing your saying that the 2.3m one will not work? Are the connectors on the 3.55m cable straight like the one pictured, or are they 90 degree? I've read conflicting info that the 90 degree connectors don't fit? |
