Replace 1 coil pack or all 6 ?

I keep getting a 29CE on cylinder 2 when running higher power maps, the plugs were changed just a few thousand miles ago so Im guessing it will be the coil pack.

Would you guys change just that cylinder or do all 6?

I had one bad coil, caused a missfire under wot only with the jb4. I only replaced the one coil and no problems since.

Generally, why fix-it if it ain't broke? That said, if your coils all have plenty of miles and you're running an aggressive tune, replacing them proactively when there's a good sale price is likely to prevent frustration down the road. How much that's worth in terms of cash has got to be a decision you make given other cool things you could do to the car..

Just replace them all. If one failed, the rest aren't far behind since they're the same age. Trust me, a full set at once is easier than 1 per month or so. I did one at a time and it's a pain in the ass.

Change them all if you have the money (relatively inexpensive for 6), keep the 5 that aren't misfiring as spares.

Yeah I think I'm just going to go for it and do them all. I can't be bothered taking the windscreen cowl panel etc all off just to get to the engine cover every time I need to replace one!

I can get the Bosch coils from euro car parts here in UK for about £20 each so they aren't too expensive.

Just leave the back 2 bolts on the engine cover out.

I think I will do next time I'm in there. I take it that it doesnt vibrate even with them out ?

I don't use any of the hardware for the engine cover or the other plastics, takes me a minute to swap a coil out. Easiest thing ever, and no vibrations.! Rockauto and Amazon are the two least expensive sources I found. Rockauto may be out of them now since I just bought six, but they were 19 and change a piece, super cheap!

I just replace them one by one. But I have two new ones in my trunk so I can be ready. I have the BMS cowl filters So it only takes 2 minutes to change out. But if you got the funds, do them all at once and be done with it.

Anyone else ever thought about replacing all the bolts with hood pins?

I guess you have to consider how many miles you have on the remaining coil packs. The Bosch version is getting cheaper. I saw a set of them on Amazon for $133.00 the other day. 00044

Remember, if you have a tune, plugs and coils wear out considerably faster.

Are three 5mm bolts that difficult to remove occasionally?

Lol. It's more for when I pull the cover out with the bolts still rested in their holes - yank it too hard and I'm always losing one or two down the bay. Must just be me.

As you were...

2 of my coils are misfiring after new spark plug install

Should I worry about my catalytic converter being damaged? Thanks

Yes, you can get them for about $20 each depending on brand.

Down to only three out of the six? After one of mine fell into the engine bay a few months back, I was thinking of just using three overall, the two in the back on the sides and one in the front.

Maybe we have different covers. Mine has one in the rear and two in the front. I keep a 5mm Allen in the trunk with a spare coil and it takes <3 minutes.
