BPC Stage 1 review

So I've had the stage 1 installed for 24 hours. I got it installed after a full service to make sure the car was tiptop. Randall was great to work with about overnighting the DDE and getting me taken care of.

Yesterday was very rainy so I couldn't really Check on any differences. Today it was dry and after letting the car warm up on my way to work it felt great. Tonight I drove to dinner and it felt great but on my way home from dinner.....fizzle....service engine soon light...car feels ok, but WTF...I am nervous

I don't even know what to think right now. Tomorrow I will stop by the shop that installed it and have them see what is wrong. On the internal computer screen the vehicle check says everything is ok...

So far only 101 miles driven...

Anyone have any similar experience where it turned out ok?

Best best is to invest in a code reader. I use carly and have had good luck. Our cars love to throw codes...

Once you have the code...folks here will give you good advice

The whole point of going the stage 1 is so I wouldn't have to worry about any codes or things going wrong.

Just a very frustrating situation to say the least, because I drove the car 2000 miles before deciding on this route to make sure the car was in great shape.

This isn't a coincidence at all.

While I have not used BPC they seem to stand behind their work. A tune doesn't eliminate you DDM from throwing codes. It very well may be coincidence or if not, simply clearing the codes may have the issue clear on it's own. Maybe throttle/injector adaptation, etc.

Again, until you have a code, I wouldn't assume and we'd just be guessing.

I agree with everything you've said. I am just really upset.

My conversations with Randall at BPC were all about longevity and no issues, so we will see.

I don't know what it is. All I know is the car ran flawlessly before and had a complete diagnostic checkup before getting the tune put on to make sure the car was in tiptop shape and could handle it.

I am hoping I can find out what the code is in a few hours from now.

Pull the code.

Smart money is on coincidence. How many times have I thrown a SES just cruising home on the highway? Hmm. 4.

Annoying yes but nothing to worry about with BPC. Give it some time.

And then you put 100 miles on it. You don't have a one off custom stage 1 tune. BPC sold a bunch of those tunes without issue. If you have check engine light, it's a sensor or hardware item causing it. Welcome to the 335d. Check engine lights and codes are common place, even in 100% stock cars.

Buy a $5 ELM OBD Bluetooth reader and figure out what the code is. If you don't have $5 go to AutoZone and get them to pull it for free.

Go back to stock. You are not the tuned car type.

cars don't care what kind of tune we put on them, they'll throw codes regardless of tune. i was planning to do some "off road surgery" to my car in two weeks and my alternator died on the way to work. now i'm diagnosing alternator and pump stuff.

my tune isn't going to save my alternator or serpintine belt. my car pretty much operates with the SES light on.

but i do 100% understand why you would feel nervous about it. Scan for the fault codes, look em up, and clear them out and see if they return after driving a while.

I'm trying to imagine how we can have a "review" on something after 100 miles.

An update.....Got the codes and talked to Bob. We came up with a game plan and going to see if it works. So far so good. I am very pleased with the Stage 1 tune and the customer service from BPC.

My guess is they're unrelated to the tune...

Seriously, you can't freak out about something and then not tell us what the resolution was. What code was it? What is the game plan now? I'm willing to bet it was for something completely unrelated.

You pre madonna's need to relax. Jesus I work a ton of hours. First code was related to injector 4 learning at maximum capacity, second was an egr related code. Per Bob's suggestion I had the codes erased and seeing if they come back.

I said I am very happy with the tune and BPC's customer service.

This car is my daily driver not my 938whp STI toy. So I want the upmost in reliability and putting together a game plan with Bob to go with there Stage 2.5 package and get the best of both worlds with 385whp and 580lbft of torque.

So please don't judge me....

dude...we are just trying to help you No codes = can't help ya. No need to bring the lord's name into this thread either. A lot of us work a ton, just like you. Who cares about your STI or the fact that your other posts suggest you want a 4" exhaust and a tune of 400+HP/600ft/lb in the future..and we're supposed to know you are concerned about reliability?

Sorry if you felt you were being judged, but performance mods are a work in progress and these cars are known to throw codes for just about anything. tuned or not.
