Oh no......Turbo going out?
Hey guys,
I've done some research when I started hearing a bit of siren whine from my car during acceleration and found that it might be a sign of turbo going? This morning, the siren noise "broke loose" and it is extremely loud now Anyone experienced this issue before? Video here |

I had the same noise on mine, it ended up being the coupler on the hot side of my VRSF intercooler that came loose...

Yes that is probably your turbo. But need to do a pressure test of your whole boost system first. You will need a compressor? Just had the exact same noise on my car & I did a lot of pressure testing up to 15 ps, hoping that it was a boost leak. Found lots of boost leaks, but they were not the problem. Removed inlets & down pipes & turbos looked fine. No oil or play. Next I used a might vac, & applied vac to the waste gates separately. Power braking under load I would get the noise with vac applied to just front or just back turbo. I think because there is enough flow from the exhaust to spin both. But when I just revved in neutral I only had noise on the rear turbo only. This told me that my rear turbo bearing or shaft has failed. I did have a low boost code, but if the bearing is going it may still boost for awhile?
Hope this helps?

if your turbo is blown, you'll get more then just noise. are you getting a cloud of burnt oil coming of your exhaust? do you get bmw boost error code? i would imagine you would... i mean if you aren't boosting anymore, you WILL feel your car fall on its face. you seriously have no clue how your car feels?????? it's hard to believe you cant tell difference...
i did view your turbos, it sure does sound like blown turbo howl from when i experienced it in my supra long ago. (man brings back bad memories)... |
