Visiting LA / Southern Cali

I have some time off and want to do an impromptu trip to LA... havent been in a good 10 years or so. Is anyone very familiar with the area? Whats a central area to stay in? I definitely plan on spending time in Malibu, checking out Muscle beach, the usual Beverly Hills and so forth...

Any recommendations on what to see / do? and what is a central area to stay in to have good access too these places?

Thanks Ahead

What are your hobbies and interests? What types of cuisine do you like?

How long are you staying and which dates?

Where are you visiting from?

All types of cuisines... honestly my hobbies and interests are so varied that I don't even know where to begin. I guess I want to see the "it" scene in LA... the usual beverly hills, malibu, the beaches, rodeo dr., hollywood and so forth are on the list... i was wondering if anyone knew any secrets or special places locals know about. Coming within a week or 2 (if I decide), from South FL.

Rainbow Bar and Grill is a must. Then, head to south Orange County.

Lunch at Neptune's Net up PCH. I recommend ordering from the live side of the place, although fish/chips is always good. Weekend is more lively, ton of bikes out front.

Also, another "biker" location is the Rock Store up in the Santa Monica Mountains on Mulholland Drive. Saw Jay Leno up there on his rocket-powered bike once. He lined it up straight, then started the engine, just in case

Just make sure you stop at In-N-Out for a double-double at least once! This is a must

Hit up 71 Above for some upscale dining on top of the tallest skyscraper in downtown LA.
Not cheap, but the view is amazing. I recommend making a reservation.

https://www.yelp.com/biz/71-above-los-angeles-2

Go to Bestia for some of the best food in town IMHO:

https://www.yelp.com/biz/bestia-los-angeles

It's also a bit upscale, it's always booked, so reservation is a must. You might get lucky with a late dinner opening up, but it's usually months in advance for primetime. I got lucky and went here with a few hours notice after attending the Emmys and they were able to accommodate because it was after 9. Get the bone marrow, it's like heaven in your mouth.

Was going to say this.

When I went, I think we ordered two bone marrow dishes among like 17 other things, haha.

Go with others who enjoy eating and basically eat the menu.

Reservations are tricky. Worse comes to worst, put it on the list for the next trip.

I don't really know LA very well.
