Question M-Sport Shift Knob - is it weighted?

Is the M-Sport shift knob weighted like the e46 ZHP shift knob is? I'm trying to decide between the two knobs. I'm drawn to the M-Sport shift knob because of its looks, but I'm also considering the e46 ZHP shift knob because I've read about how the slight weight in it makes it comfortable. Any input will be helpful, thanks!

I'm not sure exactly which knob you're talking about, but yes, it should be.

Any knob is heavier than stock. The thing weighs the same as a sheet of paper.

That's the one I thought you were talking about.

Yes, they are weighted. I have the ZHP knob on mine.

They are both weighted. I have the old e46 on mine and I love it except the thing is ROCK hard. Its like gripping a metal ball wrapped in leather.

Consequently, I've tried the m-sport shift knob and my hand kept slipping off the perf leather when shifting, I couldnt get a grip. Plus it doesnt match ANYthing in our cars (perf leather that is). It does feel nice if you can keep a grip on the thing.

Both make shifting efforts much easier though....you can find both through you dealer too.

Oh and I believe that the M-Sport knob comes with the whole boot (they're preattached) whereas the old e46 knob is just the knob.

I looked at both and will go with ZHP knob to match the M3 sport steering wheel I'm installing. I believe the ZHP knob weighs a bit more than the perforated M-sport knob.

Thanks everyone! I think I'm going to go with the ZHP knob because I'm not sure how I feel about perforated leather.

Installed my M-sport shift knob for 2 weeks...definitely feels better and I can shift more smoothly since it does make it shorter.

If it doesn't match anything else, then it's always an excuse to get a perforated M steering wheel and a perforated e-brake handle.

I'm just sayin...

imho:
- zhp knob looks better if you have nothing else perforated to match (e.g., steering wheel).

- m-sport shift knob feels better

(btw, i have the zhp, but drove a 135 with the m-sport recently)

I installed the "old E46 ZHP" shift knob and love it! Feels great (much better than the stock Al monstrosity) and well worth the $50 spent on it.
