Not surprised, now watch the value of used TDIs skyrocket.

Very upsetting. The TDI engine was fantastic. If you didn't have one, you didn't care about them, but the minute you got one you fell in love. It was the perfect balance of performance with economy. Of course that leaves BMW and Mercedes in the diesel market, but these car's aren't cheap. I would love to go back to a TDI. Hopefully one day 328d's will depreciate into my price range.

I loved my 2010 Jetta TDI, I used it as a company car and got 50cent reimbursed each mile, so nice to get so much MPG. It made me love diesel so much I ended up buying an used 20K miles 335d and gave the TDI to my daughter.

Dec 8th, I have an appointment to bring it back to VW for $13,500, it has 115K miles... I wish they bring the GTD over here.... My daughter replaced it with a 2016 GTI, what a peppy nice sounding engine...

I had a 2010 Jetta as well. Getting just over $15k for it, and got myself my 335D with 71k miles on the clock. Woul have liked lower miles but couldn't find anything. Hopefully they revive the 335D in the states, even though it isn't likely. This car isn't gonna last forever.

As the owner of both a 2.0 and 3.0 TDi - I too am sad to see the state of VW's reputation and the situation surrounding the company.

Most of the 2.0 owners - myself included - will see our non-fixable 2.0 go to the crusher.

My current set up gets 50+ mpg's.

On the flip side - VW is paying me $16k for my 2011 Jetta TDi with 101k on the clock.

Well, just drove home a spanking new 2017 Jaguar XE 2.0d at 48+ mpg keeping up with interstate traffic for 5 hours.

One of the best handling cars on the market today. Comes standard with full service and warranty for 5 years, 60,000 miles. Hopefully it will pass with decent reliability, but we shall see....

Nice. Wasn't aware they were offering this engine over here. I'd be interested in hearing details/reviews as your go through the ownership experience.

Do you know which HPFP they are using in this vehicle?

This says the diesel is only 3,320 lbs? Wow.

Nice! I'm doing the same thing you're doing. VW's buying back my 2014 Jetta TDI and I'm hopping into a 2011 Deep Sea Blue/Black 335d Sport with 56k miles. I'm psyched!

Don't worry, the way BMW's depreciate, i'm sure it won't take too long. The 2014 328d's are already down into the lower 20s.

So far drove it once on the long trip as well as test drives before buying. 1.9% APR and a slight discount. Dealers don't have much of a selection of the diesel, and Jaguar is pushing the 4 cylinder gas motor with a lease deal just for that model.

I tried to find the technical specs to the 2.0 Jaguar "Ingenium" diesel but could not find any specifics, except what Jaguar has produced for the press. Apparently it is very advanced tech-wise with roller-bearing lifters, aluminum block, etc. No word on the manufacturer of the fuel pump.

Yeah, the car is light for its size, which looks a bit wider and longer than most 3-series class cars. They advertise extended use of aluminum in the chassis and body like the newest XF. It does definitely look like a Jaguar and a cat for that matter! Not much headroom in the back. The sunroof goes above the roof when retracted and looks like a panoramic roof from the outside.

It sounds more like a diesel when idling than my 335d, but not at all unpleasant. It has a pleasant growl with acceleration. The electrical steering seems just right. Double wishbone front and multilink rear makes this car handle like an exotic. The calibration is not too soft for spirited handling and the car has a "dynamic" mode that tightens up the shocks, steering, and throttle and it does feel more like a sport suspension. Put the ZF 8-speed transmission into sport mode, and this car seems almost ready for the track with its Pirelli P7 rubber! Jaguar (Tata?) really did their homework on this car's sporting character!

Interesting details when comparing my 2011 335d to the new XE:
- it has hooks at all four corners in the trunk for use with a tie down, a feature BMW removed
- it has a donut spare tire!
- a fuse box is readily accessible in the right side of the trunk where the e90 battery resides (I don't know where the battery is yet but it seems to have another smaller one in the engine compartment)
- DEF fluid can be added in the left side of the trunk - wonder how many will spill some urea onto the nice trunk carpet??
- The less expensive GPS also comes with remote start/climate control for a smartphone app
- The $1,000 cold weather option package includes a heated steering wheel, heated front seats, heated nozzles (I think) and a heated windshield (maybe not compatible with radar detectors?)
- The optional Xenon lights come with headlight washers, a perimeter warning 360 degrees around the car, and a very un-intrusive blind spot monitoring warning light in the rear view mirrors.
- Unlike some cars, the rear seat area has separate passive vents as well as two (!) 12v outlets, as well as an arm-rest with 2 cupholders.
- Our "Premium" version has vinyl that is textured, not perforated, and seems high quality.
- The leather seats on the "Prestige" model have higher side bolsters in the bottom cushion making it harder for my entry/exit.
- BMW has a much nicer funnel to use with non-compliant or large diesel fuel pumps. The XE has a simple plastic funnel.

The EPA highway rating says 42 mpg. I got 48.5 going 70-80 mph on I-95. We drove 5 hours on half a tank!

Hope to give you good reviews in the future.

Cheers.

XE window sticker

I didn't mention, shift paddles, torque vectoring, rear traffic warning, etc.

When programmed with a destination, the GPS adds a very useful arrow display in the middle of the gauge cluster.

Pushing the rear camera button while driving provides a continuous rear view!

The vision package includes a full perimeter warning as well as beeping blind spot warning.

I have yet to read the owners' manual!

See the window sticker:

Wow, thanks for sharing. Headed to LA Auto Show now and will definitely pay attention to the new XE. Great price too (MSRP).

It's just a shame the automobile market gets defined by a bunch of bean-counters and environmentalists.

They apparently originally were planning to. Who knows, with a new diesel, maybe they will do the "full Monty" and bring in a manual, against the tide....
