Question Differential Question?

I have a 2011 BMW 335i Manual, does this have an open differential? I hear it is a e-diff or I hear it is a open differential. That is why I am asking. I have been Googling for a while, but with no luck. Thank you.

Which ones were a normal open differential? Wondering where I have been seeing that.

A more full explanation is from mid 2007 to present, all 335inmanual rear difs have a welded pumpkin. Autos habe a bolted pumpkin. Don't ask me why. The internals in both are an open diff that has electronics apply brakes to the spinning wheel so the other can catch up. I.e. it apllies brakes, not shifts power to wheel with grip. There are several different makers of diffs. I did a full pumpkin swap for about $2k. I did wavetrac because its a bit more street friendly in the corners. Mfactory is another good option similar price point slightly more drag racing friendly. Quaife is like an expensive wavetrac and the makers of wavetrac and Mfactory both have origins at quaife. Then there's other ones $4k and up. Unless you enjoy throwing money out for little to no benefit skip them. One guy said it was quieter. Idk but i can't hear mine. Course mine is louder cause i make more power which is why i got it in the first place.

Thank you for the clear explanation! Was trying to figure out why both tires would spin on my car.

Sorry one last question I thought of. It you are sitting there spinning the tires for a burnout and both tires are spinning at what appears to be same rate which side is losing power do to the open diff? Also with it being this kind of diff would you be able to leave to marks on the pavement that are consistent with each other? Sorry for bringing this back.

Its not really setup for a burnout. Lol. The side that is spinning faster gets the brakes to keep them in line. But no, its not for burnouts. A real diff is or rather can.
