Beginning of a long road -》LCI 335i touring manual

Hi all,

Some of you my know I bought another forum members 335i touring a few weeks ago. On to my second tank of fuel and enjoying it.
Brief history Ill try and dig out some photos at a later date. Always been in to Jap stuff and bikes, first car was an is200 which eventually got turbo'd very rare and a good reason, bloody expensive for not a lot of power, ended up with 240hp. Went to put a 1jz-gte engine in it and turn it in to a track car but gave up as moved up to the Midlands from down south.

After that nothing interesting on 4 wheels bar a Jap import Honda prelude, got in to track bikes and downhilling so concentrated on that for a few years.

Been in a 07 vrs petrol skoda for the last few years which tbh has been pretty bloody brilliant. Chipped it to around 260hp and it went well. Boot was massive (probably bigger than the 3 touring and it was only the hatch back).

Was looking at vans and finally gave up as the T5s were just too much wonga for a van. Very nearly went for an e60 M5 but couldn't handle the running costs as would be a daily. So this is the closest I could get to an M3 estate.

Currently enjoying it, especially in the wet. Main big mods for the future:
Coilovers - ohlins/birds something like that
Lsd - quaife or saw somewhere that the m3 diff is usable
M3 suspension arms
Maybe M3 steering rack (does it fit)?
Bushes all round
Some sort of BBK either the Msport or possibly aftermarket.
Downpipes
Intakes
Jb4
Wheels - leaning towards the CSL style atm.
Lots of little bits and bobs.
Want to get the angel eyes white not the dull yellow atm but lots of different opinions, don't want to fork out for the lux kits, any recommendation on the bulbs?

Also need to get the nav updated, it doesn't like turning on in the mornings takes about 1 minute for radio and screen to fire up. Anyone in the Midlands that can code ?

Hi mate,

Looks lovely, wish you health to drive it!

RE: the angel eyes LED's I'm using a guy from the M3cutters forum. M3POWERBOY on there and he's called Paul and has a great rep for them. He makes them himself and they look very professional. Will see how they are when I fit them this weekend!

I'll ask him if I can PM his number to you. If you want?

I'd change the wheels. They look like the ones , maybe they are, on the LCI coupe and just seem wrong. They're bad enough on a coupe, but a tourings strength is to be even more understated.
Otherwise congrats on find of the year. Manual and a touring. Have fun and at the end of the road, may see it appreciate

Cheers guys. Only 46k miles on it too, so fingers crossed should be fairly trouble free, untill I start messing with it.

Stahliniho - yes that would great if you could. How much is he wanting for them ?

smuler - Agreed, they look better in the flesh than in photos, the rears are fairly dished. Genuine CSL wheels are looking rare, so might go BBS CH or CH-R's. Got a mate who should be able to get me some discount.

Dann - I was thinking about getting a 318d badge and putting it on for a laugh.

Unfortunately Mileage has little to do with issues on the 335i
Mine had 6 injectors and a valve cover at 55k miles.
It's had 2 HPFPs, one of which was at 14k miles.
A friends one only ever needed a waterpump and that was at 100k miles.

When things want to go wrong, they go wrong. Regardless of mileage. The advantage of a lower mileage is the warranty availability/cost.

Personally I'd just leave it badgeless.
Badges ruin the back of cars imo.

Genuine CSL's are the wrong offset for the E91 anyway! 8.5j ET44 upfront would need a 10-15mm spacer to look right and you might find the 9.5j ET27 a touch tight on the back of a LCI car, as they have a wider rear track compared to pre-LCI! So combined with a decent 255/265 tyre, you would get arch contact!

Personally, with a 335i I would go for the new BBS CI-R yet to be done on a E9x as far as I can see, but would give you 8.5 fronts and 9.5 rears with enough offset clearance to allow for some decent 235/35/19 and some 265/30/19's!!

They look great too!

Congrats on the car mate, very good purchase!

Congrats on the purchase.

It's a stunning motor and there really isn't much I'd do to it as it looks spot on with the 313's too.

Very nice, I think the 313s look good too, but I completely understanding wanting to make your mark on it with different wheels... so many wheels to choose from, ideally I'd have 3 or 4 sets

How do you find the performance exhaust? I'm guessing you drove cars without when you were looking around, how much difference does it make? Where does it make the difference, acceleration, sport mode, everywhere? Is it a big difference compared to standard? Is it ever obtrusive? I'm toying with the idea of getting one for mine (same car).

So, started doing some little things to the car whilst the winter is here and I plan for some bigger things next summer.

Went with the guy that Stahliniho suggested off M3 cutters. Nice guy and easy to deal with, parts arrived swiftly so I got around to fitting them at the weekend. On top of the H8 Angel eyes and interior LEDs that I got, he also does indicators and reverse lights, but I wasn't overly keen on changing them.

Fitting interior lights was fairly easy, minus the reading lights, they are off set so getting the bulbs out was a right pain, little strong fingers are needed. I ended up using pliers and coaxing them out.

The angles eyes on the other hand were a right arse. The access hole is just too small. Managed to get them in after some swearing and very sore fingers. They look very professionally made, and all the interior lights were bagged up and labelled.

I attached a load of photos, so apologise if they're massive or don't come out right.

Interior bulbs make such a difference, makes the car feel more modern.
