Anyone done this? How exactly do you get the old part off... the sellers of these say you just need a screwdriver, but I'd like to hear from someone who's actually done it.

i would like to know too! the PDF that comes with keyhole covers from Bimmian shows that there is an oval rubber plug that needs to be removed from the door to access the screw, however, my E92 does not have such oval plug in the door. want to know before i spend $$

To access the screw, you need to pull the rubber flap up to expose it. A rubber grommet on the rubber flap covers the hole. Taking the screw out is tricky, as it comes out at an angle to the keylock mechanism. You don't need to actually take out the screw. Just loosen it all the way. You will need to pull and wiggle on the lock assembly from the outside quite hard to pull out the entire lock mechanism. Once you got the assembly out, make sure you don't pull on the door handles too hard or close the door. If you pull on the door handles too hard they may disengage and then it might be tricky to put it back. You can now decide whether you want to put the lock cylinder into your new keyhole cover or leave it without one.

If you want to remove the lock cylinder there are 2 clips that keep it in place. Use a flathead screw driver to pull them up to get the cylinder out. Put the lock cylinder into the new keyhole cover and put the entire assembly back in. Remember to align the screw at an angle to the threads on the keyhole cover and screw in. Replace the rubber grommet on the flap into the screw hole and you're done.

It should take about 15-20 minutes or so. Good luck!

i wonder if this will also remove the blueish tint light that lights up when you unlock the car or open your doors. I think its pretty nice to have that light there even though you don't use the keyhole much..

i just checked on door, and there is a plastic "window", not just a bare cut-out.
from what i understand they come with a cut-out for the light, but im not sure if there is a window or not

Its a cut out just like the original key cover, so you still get your courtesy lights.

Here is my DIY:

Bimmian Keyhole cover purchased from Mod Bargains- added security and enhanced aesthetics. The keyhole cover comes painted to match your paint code. To remove the lock cylinder, the rubber seal at the corner of the door has two rubber nubs that are press fit, can be removed by carefully pulling out until the bolt hole for the lock cylinder is accessible. A 4mm HEX wrench is used to loosen/remove the HEX bolt and the lock cylinder can be pulled out. Installation is reverse of removal. The BS paint is a pretty close match. Generic Bimmian installation instructions HERE in pdf format.
