And I really do wish that Ring authorities would ban vans, coaches, scooters, quad bikes etc, as they do not belong here. Constant source of danger for others. I don't care if it is supposed to be a public toll road - ban them! I did once see a hugely overloaded Citroen 2CV get stopped at the entry barrier, but too many nutters in inappropriate vehicles just pay their money and get on. |

So my take having no track experience at all...
The yellow car, should he have reversed into the grass right away? The dude in the blue shirt, first of, holy shit that was close. 2nd, should he have been where he was? What's the thought process there? Isn't that what the yellow flags are for? 3rd, the wet slow drifting looks fun as hell. Wish I had the skills to do that.

You can pick up that slow pace wet road drifting on your own. Just get out on an empty road on a rainy Sunday afternoon. It's easy to do and if you screw up no big deal, you're going so slow that it ends there; for the most part. Lol.
The crazy stuff is the high speed dry drift at 80mph. You lose control of that and it's game over! |

I took a company work van (15 caravan) on track at Pittrace/former beaverun near Pittsburgh.
It was for a few parade laps at an scca night at the track event though, so much different circumstances. 40 mph speed limit and I still smelled the brakes at the end...

How could have the R8 corrected the oversteer? I mean its an AWD so I'm curious. There's one thing to steer in the direction you want to go in and ensure you don't overcorrect; but, I'm more curious about whether clipping the gravel/grass reduced his traction + speed meant there was no coming back from clearly missing the apex...or going into the turn ahead of the line.
I want to be able to correct myself if god forbid I'm found in a similar situation. |

Father in law once took a fully loaded articulated lorry for a lap of spa. Would of loved to be there to see it.
He works across Europe doing exhibitions. Very early morning they were setting up at Spa and had to move 5 lorries from the overnight parking spot. One of the course officials said the quickiest way to the unload point was to drive down part of the track as a short cut so the lorries had to follow him down the track under strict instructions not to pass him. Course official decided to do a full lap of the track at a steady 56mph . Obviously this turned into a race between the trucks. Father in law says it was the funniest and scariest thing he's ever done. |
