/Drive - Segment on Oil
Really interesting video for friends who want to know more about oil.
After seeing this, a question comes to mind. My car does not reach the ~200F by the time I reach work. On colder days it barely moves. This probably means its time to use a different oil. I use Motul 5w-40 for my 2010 N54 RWD Sedan with AT |

Motul 5W-40
It is interesting that you say that the oil temp does not reach the key 212F with the Motul 5W40. The Redline product recommended for the N54 is 5W-30 and is also ester based but Grp V and not Grp IV like Motul.
. I am currently using the GTL PP Euro 5W-40 and will do so until post 50k miles. . At that time I will move to Redline or Motul. I ran the RL 5W-30 in my N54 with great results. My concern was the high oil temps -- 230-240f and Redline did a great job. . I would be surprised if you can beat the Motul X-Cess 5W-40 for a daily driver. . Motul & Redline are both excellent and what I consider superior to what I currently using. |
