What is best tune for n51?

So I just found out that I have 3-stage intake by default since it's a n51

I just installed PE and will do charcoal delete for intake. My question is what tune should I go with and what gains can I expect? Thank you

I would check either Active Autowerke or BPC as those two tunes yield the most horsepower based on mods. If you want the most horsepower outta the engine but don't want to delete the primaries or secondaries yet, you could install the 3-stage manifold. Both have very positive reviews and customer support is outstanding. You can't go wrong either way.

A. The N51 already has the 3 stage manifold.
B. That's the very first thing he said.

I'm on a BPC tune, and I would recommend them personally.

Ok guys, so if I go with headers from AA/SS and tune from BPC - can I keep my primary and secondary cats or they need to be deleted by default? I just don't want to fail emission tests - it's my daily driver

If you go AA or SS headers the primary's will be deleted. You will still have secondary cats though. But you can still get a tune from those guys without the AA or SS headers you just won't see as big of a gain as if you went with headers.

Oh, I see now. So I would fail emissions with just secondaries right?

You will have to check your regulations where you live. Here in AZ they just plug in ODBII and call it a day. CA they pop the hood for a visual inspection same for NY.

Dont even consider an AA tune, it's inferior to BPC. I can't wait to get off this AA tune.

Dont get the aa tune...I wish I hadnt paid so much money for an off the shelf tune. BPC has been doing a lot of R&D and I the reviews have been great...I know which one I would get

Looks like I am going to skip headers, they do visual check in Ontario during emissions. Will have to find out how much gain I can get with just tune then and if it's worth it if there's minimal gain like 5-9hp (I do have xi and auto which are not helping lol). In that case maybe money is better spent on front M3 rep bumper or coil overs. I'm probably going to end up living in my 328 after my wife kicks me out of home for spending too much

Ok, so I found out that primary cats are must have, but secondaries are not MUST haves to pass emission test in Ontario. So given that new (for me) info - I'm confused: does deleting secondary cats increase, decrease or do nothing in terms of power gain? Searched on forum and some say it steals away 5-10 hp, others say it adds 5-9hp and many say it basically does nothing in terms of gain since they are not at all restrictive (unlike primary cats). Not sure who is right. Educate me please guys?

They help a little, but not as much as primaries.

yes, u will pass without secondary.

N51 had more restricted cats vs n52, secondary gain you about 7whp, 15whp with primary, no sure about both off, too loud for street.

dyno'd w ess tune+pe+pi.

If I remove secondaries, how loud will PE become? I'm just afraid it to get too loud or drone, no? And what is best to weld in instead of secondaries - I mean any straight pipe of same diameter at any local muffler shop or should i order some brand pipes? Thank you

best way is to get AFE mid section for removing secondary, have a shop cut
it to the right length and use clamp came with PE. so you can always go back without welding.

no drone nor too loud with either header or mid pipe alone, its a bomb with both on.

mid= low end loud, high end quiet. more low end burble.
header= high end loud, low end semi loud (quieter then mid's low end)

You can always get AFE catted headers. I know a guy with a relatively cheap set brand new but he is here in the US.

TheAxiom can you describe the difference between BPC Stage I tune (I assume that's the only street-legal one from BPC) and AA tune?

I'm on AA myself right now, and curious just how much better (if at all) BPC is.

Is it worth it getting a tune from BPC if I'm not going with headers, but just midpipes and PE? Is it snake oil or it still will gain something?

Sorry, but I have to. http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1098191

To answer your question, there is no drone. And you should go with AFE or SS midpipes. It's a great combo. Best of luck whatever you choose.
