pick up preparation

the location of my ship - rather the ship my car is being shipped in - was somewhere near the Maine coast two days ago. i'm hoping it arrives by the end of this month...hopefully not later than early next month.

is there a check list i should go through at the time of taking delivery of the car? anything i should look for such as shipping damage? should i demand i take the test drive before sign and finalize the deal?

please share your experience and things you wish you'd done when you picked up your car...

another thing that's been botherin me somewhat. my SA said the car - when it arrives - should have 15...no more than 20 miles on it. i've test-driven many other cars that's on the dealer lot that had less than 10...even 5 miles on it. does bmw do extensive test-drive at the factory after production is complete? how many miles did your have at the time you picked up your car?

comment appreciated

Check the flimsy piece of plastic covering surrounding the seat controls on the sides of the seats! It's so cheap and squeeky! Maybe they can add padding if you catch it while you're there. Just check every place for squeeks and rattles if you can.

My car had 4 miles when I picked it up.

I picked up my car 5 weeks ago with 7 miles on it. If there aren't any gas stations near the dealership, they will need to put more miles on it. Plus, I assume they need to test drive the car during their preparation.

It seems like some dealers prepare their cars perfectly and others do not. My car is black sapphire and I read many threads warning about dealers putting swirl marks in black cars. I bought my car from Sonnen BMW in the San Francisco Bay Area and they prepared it perfectly. Plus, I had a great SA (John Daniel) that made sure everything was done properly.

I walked around my car, checked it out carefully, sat in it, checked out the interior, signed the papers and drove home. I love it.

I just picked up my e92 this past friday, I went through the following checklist as this is what i've read here.

1. Test Drive
2. Check for any damage
3. Checked for Flashlight and all Tools in toolbox (guess what the flashlight and allen wrench were missing, which is what I've found typical here. My SA took care of it)
4. Ask for any free gifts
5. sign and drive

My car had 4 miles on it before my test drive and I drove off with 14 miles.
Good Luck!

I picked mine up with .1 miles on it. We don't test drive the vehicles before we deliver them. They might be driven to fill them up with gas, but I've never known a technician or a CA to test drive a car just before delivery. The only time that happens is if there is something wrong with the car.

how do you guys go about asking for free gifts?

The deposit I put down is non-refundable so ya... dont' think I have too much room to work with.

What gifts are there? I don't think my CA will budge on floor mats, but a key chain and what else is in the possible grab bag?

Also, where is the flashlight located? tool box is in the trunk?

And... how much gas is typical to have in the car? Would they fill it up for you, or just bare minimum to get you off the lot? lol.
