Newbie Q for 2013 335xi E92 N55 Tune experiences...

My research has yielded minimal results. From what I know (and forgive any info that may be off).. the 2013 e92 335i has a new DME, which is not flashable. In order to flash it, the ECU needs to be removed from the car to be "updated".

Can anyone confirm this? I haven't found no many tunes that support this year car... Cobb = no, GIAC = no, DInan = no?, MHD = soon?, bmw PPK = yes, JB4 = yes, anything else?

Also, in addition to confirmation and any additional options, looking to hear what other tuned owners of this year car have done.

Thanks.

The PPK is programmed or coded in so yes it can be done. However its not a huge increase in performance.

The JB4 is, well I wouldn't call it a piggy back I guess, but it intercepts signals from the sensors and tricks the computer into doing what you want it to do to increase performance. However its an option.

MHD will need to bench flash the DME as you mentioned. Personally I would suggest going this route. The other options are well just not as in depth as you can get with the MHD setup. JB4 will perform well but its depends what you really want.

What are your goals for the car?

Thanks for the response...

Re: goals...

Looking for some extra power for the occasional spirited drive. I've read about the gains returned to the N55 with a software update, which sees quite adequate for me. My last car (mk6 GTI 2.0t.), I lived with just a 93 octane apr tune for 4 years and was mostly content.

Has anyone done a bench flash? Local performance shop? Dealer?

I am not sure where you can go but I know Justin with Twisted Tuning is the main go to guy for MHD. He posts on here as Justin@MHD. I am pretty sure he is up in the north east and can guide you to the correct people if he can't do it himself.

As long as you arent trying to save a warranty or anything I think you will be happy with the results.

I have an N55, E90 - 2011 - 6mt, and would say the downpipe(we have no emissions) and the tune woke the car up significantly. I would say probably 35-40% faster.

Look up the golf ball tee mod if you haven't already. Free and gives you a little more noise.

If you do a front mount intercooler, downpipe and tune you will be very impressed with the results. I added an intake simply for the noise but it seems to cause the intake temps to rise some because its open element and not sealed box.
