SOS Malfunction Warning after DSP and Amp Install (with TL;DR)
TL;DR: Installed DSP and AMP (no stock wires cut). Ignition was on for a few hours, got battery discharge warning. Went for a drive, discharge warning off. Got back in car after 20-30 mins and DRLs didn't turn on when unlocking and SOS error appeared when ignition was turned on. Everything else works fine.
Hey Guys, Have a strange one for you chaps. I recently installed an Audison Bit Ten and a set of component speakers which are wired into a Genesis Profile Two amplifier using a harness and no original were cut. While working on this, due to the having its ignition turned on but not started for a few hours, I got an expected increased battery discharge warning. So I decided, to take the car for a 30-40 minute drive and the discharge warning went away and I parked and locked my car so it definitely cuts out power to the DSP and amp. After about 20 minutes, I unlocked my car and first thing I noticed was my DRLs didn't turn on until I hit unlock for the second time and then starting the car, it showed the SOS malfunction warning. Everything else appears to be working such as the radio, voice assistance, navigation, idrive, cd player etc. Even when I hit the SOS call button, it shows up my location and tries to connect the call but that's as far as it gets. Reading and searching online, the DRLs not turning on is an indicator that the battery is on its way out. I've also read that if the battery is low, it shuts off mobile communication, hence the error warning. Can anyone shed some more light on this? Thanks! |

First thing to do is put a full charge on the battery
a short drive won't get it fully charged. and see if that sorts out some or all of it. What did you start out with system and option wise? Car draws .5 amps when awake plus whatever else is turned on. electical e90 pdf http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j...,d.cGU&cad=rja http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j...85464276,d.cGU http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j...85464276,d.cGU What is TL ![]() If you programmed your daytime running lights yourself the setting may have been lost during power down or low voltage condition. I have a 2007 E93 330d with CCC and Professional Nav. The car had a base stereo system, which was de-equalized using the Bit Ten and I've installed some Focal K2 Power KRX3 mids and tweeters for now. Complete options list: ![]() TL;DR = Too Long; Didn't read ![]() I just went to the petrol station to fill up now and when I unlocked the car after paying, DRLs turned on when I unlocked the car but the SOS error remained. I decided to load up INPA and grab all error codes appearing and had the code A36C which looking online relates to the bluetooth and antenna. Clearing all codes has got rid of the SOS malfunction warning for now. Will keep an eye out on it and update if the situation changes.

most connector not plugged in somewhere in the boot? that's most likely the cause (pun intended)

I've double checked and pushed in all connectors going to the TCU (on the TCU itself) and even removed the idrive unit and pushed the most connector in there too.
As the error points to the bluetooth / antenna, I have been trying to locate the bluetooth antenna but haven't had much luck. This images shows that it should be under the steering column but all I have is a speaker. ![]() Does anyone have any other pointers or suggestions of what it could be? EDIT Looking at what ctuna posted, the Most Loop Connector location under the arm bolster could have been moved about as I was feeding wires to the boot through there. How would I go about ensuring all those are connected properly? Last edited by Bash*; 01-05-2017 at 06:58 PM.. |

I had a look today and the e93 bluetooth antenna is on the passenger side footwell, under the glove box.
I can't see no cable which is loose anywhere and trying to code out the error doesn't work either. I tried to code out the following things. KOMBI: TCM_ALIVE_MONITOR -> nicht_activ TCM_ID_MONITOR -> nicht_activ TCUM: E-CALL_HARDKEY_FITTED -> nicht_activ NON-TELEMATIC_E-CALL -> nicht_activ AIRBAG_TRIGGERED_E-CALL -> nicht_activ Like I said before everything else works as it should so does anyone have any other suggestions? Thanks! |

I have my Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge paired to the car which I'm not sure would make the difference. I did however remove the device and start the car again and the error still showed. EDIT: What does the MOST Connector at the back of the headunit send over? is it the audio signal or something else? Last edited by Bash*; 01-07-2017 at 05:13 PM.. |

Looks like the only thing you can do is follow the fiber lines.
What about making the shortest most loop possible by running the output of the idrive most line back into the input. In the Rad 2 file there is a enabling line for the most loop. I believe its ring status = active you might try making it nicht active. This will be in a different file than the pro radio I don't know what all the files are for the idrive. Tried to find in the Bently manual no luck. Last edited by ctuna; 01-07-2017 at 09:01 PM.. |

So I removed my headunit again and I think I found the culprit of why I'm getting the SOS malfunction error.
With the car ignition on or the car running, usually the MOST connector should be lighting up with a red led but in my case this is not which is returning the SOS error. I've attached an image. What I would like to know is which way this would travel from the headunit to the back of the car? How difficult would it be to replace it? The image i've attached was taken when the car was running. Thanks ![]() |

So I was back in the car later this evening and found the MOST Loop Connector too. It was located under the passenger side rear door trim panel.
As I was working essentially in darkness I couldn't really see anything loose or damaged in the loop itself. I think the fibre optic cable has just died which sucks. Does anyone else know how I could potentially code out the SOS warning? What I've tried has been mentioned above. Thanks ![]() |

As far as I know
The head unit acts as a server and translator between the can bus which the rest of the car communicates over. I don't know if there is a transducer that produces light on each module or not but there should be light coming out of the head unit on one side at least. So this is a loop not a bus any break in the loop essentially stops all devices on the loop. This can cause confusion as the bad devices make all other devices look bad and even generate error signals. If one of the devices on the loop is depowered the transmission also stops. When trouble shooting problems on the loop people often buy a most jumper to bypass devices to isolate which one is causing the problem. |

I have a feeling that I remember seeing that optical cable being lit up when it was removed from the head unit. If i was to buy a most jumper, would you know where the best place would be to start? |

There is an Source and return cable the light comes out of one side
and returns from the other.(after going through every device on the loop} When I have seen people display and active unit the light is flashing on or on one side. If everything is working in the loop I would think if you pulled the return cable you would see light coming out of that side and know your loop wasn't broken. Usually the TCU/mulf/combox and the satellite module is the ones that people try to jump. If you have SOS some people talk about the FZD module witch is the overhead emergency call switch , I don't know if this is on the most or not. I thought that coding out the SOS in the Kombi module was enough to stop the SOS error was enough to to stop the SOS error from displaying. Are you sure your code out took? Hmm I think I'll need to buy a MOST jumper and see what I can do.
Alternatively, as the SOS feature is something I don't need, is it possible that I can some how remove the sos system entirely? |

It you have a TCU or Mulf your bluetooth phone comes from there.
I think the same is true for the combox. Right now on my 06 I have SOS but since BMW has discontinued SOS in the US its useless, but my bluetooth phone still works. To get the SOS error to go away SOS has to be programmed out most of the reports say disabling it in the Kombi module works. Don't know if they use a different system in the UK for this setup. If your Most loops was working before the install it should be working now. There was something in the Bently manual about not having sharp bends in the fiberoptic cable. |
