BMW 330i Magnaflow 14815
I had a magnaflow 14815 Street series muffler installed last week. I left the resonator intact to avoid drone, but I still get just a little under load --nothing turning up the radio doesn't fix . The muffler has not completely broken in yet, of course, but I am starting to notice some crackles on downshifts in "DS". For right now, I'm leaving the tips as they are, but will most likely have them cut and welded on to be more straight out the back.

absolutely in love with how the exhaust tips are angled like that.
I've been toying with the idea of adding a magnaflow muffler to my n52 equipped F10 for a while now.. looks like you have me sold. Not sure if this still applies to newer BMW ecu's but its reccomended you dont do any full throttle pulls for the first 100 miles. after this, lots of real world driving will help your ECU adjust well so you can get maximum gains from your new muffler. most of the "break-in process" for new exhaust components is actually your ECU adjusting fuel/ignition timing to compensate for the modification in exhaust flow. this process took me roughly 400KM to complete when i had my secondaries deleted. great to see you kept your resonator intact - not recommended you delete it as the drone will be atrocious around 2500-3000RPM and you actually LOSE torque unless you fit an x-pipe in the same place where the res used to be. next step for you is a secondary cat delete!! the gains are quite nice and the sound along with your new muffler will be great. I already have mine deleted and am looking to install a magnaflow muffler very soon. please film a fly-by video with this muffler! cheers! |

perhaps if you personally know the shop owner when you go to get your emission test, they will pass you. whenever I have mechanics look underneath my car they dont even notice that the secondaries are gone because its just piping in place, you have to be specifically looking for it. How does your car sound with the muffler? is there any drone at all? do you feel any power gains? |

the 14815 muffler you have is a 2.25 inlet. I guess ill be going with the same one because those 3 inch tips look awesome. any performance gains worth noting?

the blank video of me revving picked up the sound quality really nicely... in the flyby video, it sounds WAY louder in person. I have a different muffler from yours with custom tips welded on. I like your style exhaust tips better, and I think your muffler looks amazing angled out of the back like that. Is the exhaust sound with and without secondary cats noticeable? what do you think? thanks! |

I think you should be fine. The muffler is completely behind the rear axel, so x-drive shouldn't affect anything. And post an update about your experience with the res delete, I've been on the fence about it.

From the headers back it goes into 1 high flow cat, and then into a magnaflow muffler (idk the part number, it's a universal muffler). No resonator and I think it sounds great. It's not too loud and I get some nice crackles and pops. I can try and get a video if anyone is interested. |

I will update. Looking to get it done in a few weeks. It's going to snow here again ..... like it's almost April. I'll probably do it mid April and let you know. I don't think drone is going to be too big an issue . I hope.

you might want to put your resonator back on and delete your secondary cats instead, it will sound better. |

I never had the stock exhaust, it came with a shoddily done custom exhaust, so I don't have a resonator to put back on. Looked for a stock exhaust and couldn't find one local so I just had one made at a shop. It sounds good to me and I've had plenty of compliments on it so I don't think I'll mess with it. |

I I highly recommend you remove the high flow cat (you already have cats in the manifold, not needed) and install something like a vibrant resonator underneath the rear seats. it will sound deeper and more throaty without that useless high flow cat and the resonator will get rid of the annoying drones and frequencies with your exhaust setup without really hurting overall sound. it will be great. I really dont understand why the previous owner would install a whole new exhaust system when you can just delete the secondary cats on the OEM setup and install a high flow muffler in place of the restrictive stock one. less work, probably less money and an overall better sound. the resonator is important. you lose torque without one so make sure to put some sort of aftermarket one on. would like to see pics of your current setup. |
