anyone of you guys was thinking to work in Bmw manufacture ? I'm just wondering how much they might pay starting for person with no experience in car manufacture. I think it's cool to work in Bmw manufacture if you love these cars

I've been toying with the idea of working there. I'm not far away in Augusta, GA so the move wouldn't be entirely dreadful. I'd like a change of scenery from banking/mortgages to get into something I genuinely enjoy. I checked on GlassDoor app and there are dozens of positions open on what seem like a regular basis. Might take a tour of the facility one weekend and see what exactly they have to offer.

Ever considered working for corporate at Woodcliff Lake since you're in NJ? I know it's not manufacturing, however, I thought it would be neat to work there. Before I moved to FL I applied but never got a call back

I worked in Montvale the last year before BMWNA moved to Woodclif Lake. An excellent company to work for. They demand your best though. If you can follow instructions to the letter without questions, and are a person that strives for excellence in your job, it's a great company.
The way they hire is through a job card. This is an open position. Current employees get first shot at a job card based on seniority. If the job card doesn't get filled, they open it to current temp employees. If it remains open after that they look outside the company. They pay well and the benefits package is unreal. I worked as a temp in the body shop and unfortunately that was '08 and the stock market collapse saw BMW reduce it's NA workforce by 10%. I knew 2 guys the year before me that both got hired at VPC(port). $35/hr with 10hrs/wk mandatory overtime at time and 1/2. New car that cost nothing but gas and gets replaced at 5000mi. BMW covers tax,title,registration, and insurance. You order the car to your specs even. Their cafeterias are run by legitimate chefs and are incredible. We had swordfish steaks for lunch once and it cost $5 with 2 sides. Can't say enough good things about the company.

The facilities in Woodclif Lake are incredible. The trading center cost $150m. The offices were an additional $130m. All new in '08.

I'd give up a kidney to work at BMW, Mercedes, or Porsche. Would be a dream job for sure.

During my time there we always had multiple Z8s in the shop. The X6, 1er, and 3er diesel were all new vehicles and I worked on the preproduction models. We had 3 McLaren F1s come through and I worked on 1. We saw every Rolls Royce model.
The new facility had 2 giant spray booths. 1 was air conditioned. Took outside air that was 89°f and 80% humidity and cooled it down to 39°f and 20% humidity in the booth. They were pretty confident that they could freeze water in the spray booth during summer.

Woodclif Lake also had a hydrogen refueling station for the hydrogen powered 7er. Giant reinforced concrete bunker. I was allowed to get about 30ft from it. No one but the refueling guy were able to get any closer.

I'm working in manufacture as a machine operator, so machines are not new to me in factory industrie. I know car factory is something different, more advance , but I wish to take a chance and try to do my best.

Ps. Soon I'm planning to take welding classes as well to improve my skills.

Take MIG/MAG welding classes not TIG. TIG is used in aerospace manufacturing but not in automotive manufacturing. BMW even welds aluminium using MIG/MAG process.

I haven't, the best I can say is I visited Charleston for a few weeks a few years ago. Wasn't a fan. Probably completely different, eh?

Unlikely to make any sense to move 800 miles to get a $15/hour starting job and reality is building a BMW won't be much more exciting than building anything else in a modern plant. If you think you are interested in this type of work I would look into what is available closer or what skills you need to become more qualified and try to find something local to see if you actually like it.

Charleston is a fantastic old southern town.

Greenville has a wonderful mix of industry and attention to the need for green space and family friendly amenities. Growing economy with a low cost of living....

I believe Greenville is the 2nd or 3rd largest city in South Carolina.

Then - you add the proximity to Asheville and mountains....very attractive place to live.

Unfortunately the nature of the job can be somewhat tedious and very very repetitive. Automotive manufacturing industry, regardless of brand, jobs are very repetitive and boring.

They see numbers number numbers. Production has to keep moving. You will work overtime like a dog.
Expect 50 to 60 hour work weeks, and of course rotating shifts (days, afternoons and nights). Shifts alone do so much harm to your body internal clock that honestly it is not worth it. You will notice you are more prone to getting sick.

Only thing that keeps people there is the pay and benefits. They know that and that's why they pay so good.

Don't confuse your love and enthusiasm for Bmw car with working for Bmw manufacturing. You will notice right away that it is not the same thing.

Oh and I have been in automotive manufacturing for years in different positions, so I have seen it all first hand. After I left that god damn industry I will never go back to it, ever!

Agreed. Hard to see why someone wouldn't like Charleston. We drive through Greenville every year on our way to Asheville for vacation. I'd have no problem living there.

Still looking for best option in welding to make as much money as I can from that profession cause from what I heard welders make a good money.

I am a immigrant, so to move from one place to another it's not a big deal : ) New Jersey is kind of dirty. I hate winter & snow and find a good job in any warm state would even help me to move

You want to make BIG money welding? Get underwater certified. Dive certified welding is huge money. Working in oil industry is probably the highest paying welding job. My buddy works for GE TIG welding fuel lines for jet engines and makes $100k less than 5 years on the job.

That's what I heard about underwater welding. I need to read more about it, cause from what I heard license in one state does not have to be accept in another.
