Reached an important cross roads - LPG or Diesel

Hi all,

After owning a 330i coupe for the past year its been absolute joy to drive ( expect for a failed injector - warranty replaced all 6 & a failed low pressure fuel pump)

The car averages at 22mpg which is made up of 95% urban driving which never bothered me until i got a new job recently which bumped my weekly miles upto 300. In December i used £320 worth of fuel which is too much for me personally..

so..... As the title suggests i was thinking of either selling the car and opting for a diesel which tbh i really dont want to do or getting a good LPG system fitted to the car

ive been crunching the numbers and the system would pay itself off in 8 months at which point i would be saving £120 - £150 a month.

If i was to sell id want to go for a 335d coupe but my current one is truly one of a kind (its a pretty high spec'd "individual" model in phoenix yellow)

has anyone heard of someone LPG this particular engine/ car as i cant seem to find anything ( a lot of the 4.4 and 4.8 X5s seem to be done - my brothers included & he suggested i go down the lpg route)

I had a E46 325i on LPG and it was brilliant. The power was near enough the same when on LPG compared to petrol and it was costing me less than half in fuel costs.

But the N53 330i is direct injection and I don't believe it is possible to convert your car. Correct me if i am wrong?

There are kits for FSI VAG's but there very expensive. And I believe there not as efficient as the petrol is sprayed in the combustion chamber every so often.

Although if your engine is the N52, then the above does not apply. But be careful as the E92 doesn't have a spare wheel well and therefore the tank will go in the boot meaning you will loose a huge amount of space.

300 miles a week so about 60 miles a day?? Whats your max miles per day??

Only ask because a few months ago Nissan was doing used Leafs at £99 deposit and £99/month, at those kind of prices your petrol costs savings alone per month would pay for it as a commuter car. I've done 13k miles in my Leaf over the last 2 years, I charge the car using cheaper evening Economic 7 rate, fuel costs for 13k is about £150, or just 1p per mile!! £0 road tax and you don't even need to service the thing, the running cost savings are astronomical compared to my old 335i.

Only issue is if 70 miles max range is enough for your commute every day, and than finding a cheap deal as they seem to have gone and used prices seem to be going up (use to be under £5k now most are around £6k), so they aren't quite the bargain they use to be to buy/lease.

This is after a quick detail at a friends place. I've tried my hardest to find another like for like but can't. Hoping that plays in my favour when selling.
