Injector Replacement
Hey guys,
I'm in the middle of replacing my injectors right now. I noticed a ton of dirt that was built up inside the injector holes in the head. Dirt even made it past the seals on the injectors. I cleaned out the holes and blew them out with an air touch. When I put my new injectors in, they stick out about a half inch longer than the previous injecotors. The part numbers are the same and the injectors are the same length. I tighted down the caps to spec and they still stick out. I've tried tapping them in with my slide hammer but they will not go in any farther. Is this normal? What is the solution to this? Keep banging them down? Thanks for the help as always! |

DozerD, where you at in NJ? I may have to bribe you some day to help me replace mine. Got another code 200 miles or so ago, with clearly a noisy injector. Went away with half tank triple dosed with diesel kleen, but thinking I may be on borrowed time.

Are y'all finding a good deal on injectors from somewhere? The cheapest I find is $500 a piece, and $3k seems like a crazy amount of money to spend on injectors. I get that I'm in a very "pay-to-play" vehicle, but still. Is there a cheaper option anywhere?

My car sat for 10 months because I refused to pay that much for them. I have a few that tested bad that I am going to try to get rebuilt (at some point) |

With my dealer pricing I got my injectors for $580 a piece, all together with taxes it was about $3600. Warranty covered it though and I'm adding secondary filtration like TDIwyse did. If you need new OEM injectors and decide you are willing to pay the $580, let me know and I will order them for you.

Without starting a new topic, does anyone know a good place to have the old injectors tested/rebuilt? There is a shop local to me on the North Side of Chicago who can test our injectors but they are unsure if they can be rebuilt/cleaned. I'm assuming that the Piezo solenoid fails in these over time from wear and tear but I could be wrong. My car did not throw any codes when my injector failed. I diagnosed the injector as being bad by pulling the electrical connection while the car was running. I forgot to Ohm test the connections when I had it out with my meter.

Mine (JR) has been throwing a injector code code lately, but only symptom is that it gets noisy after code is thrown and quiets down after a bottle of injector cleaner. Reset SES and stays away for a few K miles until it pops up again...usually after a very spirited run. No loss of power, rough idle, smoke, etc. Perhaps I have to look at resetting adaptations. |

Injectors and Testing
Hey Guys....
Okay through my trials and tribulations... Thing 1. For testing, find a diesel shop with one of these: EPS 200 Its the same device that Bosch uses on the factory floor. The tester hooks up the connections (fuel, overflow, electrical) and hits a button, then the machine runs a diagnostic....they cant screw it up. And you get a full read out of ALL the specs... Thing 2. I got my injectors from Sprinter Supplier......they are a wholesaler so they can sell super cheap comparatively...but not directly. They have an ebay page where I got mine for $365 each. Heres the ebay page: http://stores.ebay.com/sprintercentral/ And the item if it hasnt expired and they have a new one posted: http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-OEM-BOSC...item41b64c43b7 Good luck (to me as well, I have at least 1 failing one right now) Last edited by OmahaDZL; 01-24-2017 at 02:44 PM.. |

If it makes you feel any better, in my excitement to get mine back in and running (or maybe it was the beer) I left my caps off.
I spent 20 minutes writing down every number off each injector, what position it came from, where it was going back in etc, then put them in... Went to put the hold downs on and was like errr, umm, hmmm... woops It happens. |

I pulled those codes from my buddy's snap on computer. It communicated just fine with the car until I tried running the ABS pump and lift pump for fuel functions. Didn't activate as it should. That's why I was trying to find ISTA software for my car. |
