NJ / East Coast Radar/Laser
From what I can tell in NJ most cops just sit with their radar on and wait for it to ping, so it definitely seems like going in on a detector is worth it here.
Anyone know anything about the surrounding states? I drive through NY/CT/MA a lot back and forth to school, and I also venture into PA where my girlfriend goes to school. I've heard CT has a lot of laser. Worth thinking about a laser jammer/detector setup after buying a radar detector? Also, anyone with a jammer ever been pulled over anyway after you got hit with the laser? Even though the cop probably didn't get you over the limit? Seems like if they want to give you a ticket they just will. Laser setups being expensive and all, I'd rather not bother since I don't fly around at 90+ on the daily. But, if it'll save my ass quite a bit when I'm slowing back down after coming off a red light or something, it would be nice to have. |

CT definitely uses laser. I had 2 successful jams with my old LI setup, both times I had plenty of time to slow down before I flipped the jammers off. When I lived in NJ, it was always radar and didn't help NJ uses K band. Only worried about laser when I'd go west and cross into PA.

No laser over my way in western PA - they are using either stationary radar traps or have it constant On while they are driving

MTC, save your money. Jersey cops will give you 75-78 before pulling you over on the GSP and Tpk. I did 78 miles a day without a problem for 27 yrs. The one time I did get pulled over in the Montvale area, I was doing 86. State trooper. Gave me a parking ticket and told me to "keep it within reason". Same with NY and Ct so far as 75-78.Southern Vermont is another story. 76 and it's $225. no questions asked. Rural, empty, back roads, have fun. All this assumes that you don't say something stupid to the cop like "missed your doughnuts today?".

Long story short, CT cop screwed me over by lying to me because he didn't want to go to court. So ya, I have very little respect/faith in CT state troopers lol |

... On a side note, I would like to know the result of those who have a laser setup and were pulled over having just used it. |

Honestly, use Waze and be smart about speeding.
Don't speed over hills and around turns. Police will sit in areas where they have the advantage and the bottom of hills and at the exit of turns is where they mostly hide. I run a V1 with YaV1 but Waze saves me more than my V1. I live in Philly and Philly cops are not allowed to use radar (most local municipalities are not allowed), only state troppers. They typically pace or use enradd traps. Only time my V1 helps is when I'm out of Philly. Last edited by matteblue3er; 02-02-2017 at 10:23 PM.. |

I used to run my V1 all the time and what I normally saw was in areas where other signals would set it off that is where cops would wait. Figuring you program it in to ignore that area. I mainly use waze now and only put the V1 up during long drives.

My V1 is trash in the tri-state. It used to be good many many years ago. Maybe I need an update.
The integrated K40 in my Panamera Turbo is phenomenal, saved me so many times its crazy. Its not perfect but almost.

How much was your K40 system if you don't mind me asking? Just radar? Or radar+laser?

In PA only state police are authorized to use radar. It says so right in the speed enforcement statute. The law also allows a distance after the speed limit is decreased for you to slow. So after the sign you have a grace area. I argued in traffic court that the same reasoning should be applied to increasing speed in anticipation of new higher limit. Judge agreed and pissed off the cop who had just said,"everybody knows the speed limit starts at the sign."

R&L, it was super expensive almost $2,000. Definitely not worth it unless its an expensive car and you are flying in it hehehe.
