A bit to the southwest but I can't say enough good things about Kevin at AKTIV Automotive, 22 W Diamond Ave, Gaithersburg -- he is very enthusiast friendly, opens his shop to the BMW club 2-3 times a year, will work with you if you purchase parts unlike some places. And he really loves BMWs.

Look up Airport Automotive by BWI. The owner is a good friend of mine, but he's a BMW fan through and through. He really knows his stuff and does great work.

Dicky Smalls in Beltsville has an experienced ex Bmw tech who personally drives an e70 x5 diesel. He did plenty of work on my 335D and others when he worked at the dealer. Bmw Excluservice in Rockville is a good shop and competent with diesels but I doubt they will touch anything involving emissions deletes.

I'm looking for a shop local that (a) won't take me for a ride and tell me I need stuff that I don't (b) shop that does the tuning aspect and in this instance I believe I just need the wheel adaptation done because I'm getting the notorious "stumbling at idle".

You want someone who knows these cars well. If you have time I'd try one of the "ninjas" -- Matt Whitbread (Michigan) Andrew Rodriguez (Georgia) or the BPC folks in Raleigh. Apologies if I am leaving folks out.
