Confusing Issues with INPA and NCS Expert (2007 BMW 328xi)

Hi,

So, I'm having some peculiar issues trying to get INPA and NCS Expert to work.

I am just using your basic D-CAN cable off of Amazon. I downloaded a BMW Tools 2.12 installer suite. I also found INPA_FXX.rar.

With the regular BMW Tools suite, INPA detected my ignition/battery but couldn't communicate any further with regards to airbag (giving me errors D_SIM not found/SYS-0005 error and the like). Basic tests I saw on e90coding.com (or whatever). So, I followed the instructions in INPA_FXX.rar which I guess contains an updated suite of files for INPA and EDIABAS.

After overwriting INPA and EDIABAS files on my C: drive with what was contained in INPA_FXX.rar (per the instructions within), my computer can sort of communicate with the car. I am not getting the missing file error as previously mentioned; but, I am sometimes getting a 004 string error. On top of that, I don't really understand why my only NCSExpert profile option is just "default." I reckon I could try one of the ones from NCS Dummy, but even that one seems outdated.

For what it's worth, the "old" INPA didn't have nearly as many model options as the "new" INPA from FXX.

Basically, what am I missing? I am ultimately just trying to reset my battery (it's new) and do some simple coding like windows close with the key fob. I can't find the battery reset option in INPA, and I am unable to get NCSExpert to load anything correctly. Is it my cable or just the way I have everything loaded? Should I just wipe clean and use the regular BMW Standard Tools install without the INPA FXX?

Any thoughts? Any help is greatly appreciated. I'd be happy to provide more information as needed.

I have my COM port set to 1 on each, e.g. in the Device Settings it's at 1 and in the obd.ini file it's at 1. They both match. I've tried other settings, too, so like COM4 instead of COM1.

I did some reading, and I notice my cable appears to have a white circuit board. I'm guessing this is the "dreaded" white chip? I was thinking I could do the editing of the drivers per someone's directions posted here or on bimmerforums.

Alternatively, I might use the newer laptop I have with the V3 software posted here in the coding forum. Perhaps that might solve my issues. It would also make my life easier using the newer laptop since the old one's battery is toast and needs a constant power supply from the wall.

Can't recall contents of the txt file, but I for one was not clear what these INPA_FXX.rar files were really for...how did you confirm they are the newer versions and thus the better/needed ones ?

Totally arbitrary. I have no basis. It's all based on alternative facts. Do you know where I could find the updated stuff? I plan on downloading whatever it is from the other thread in here.

That makes so much more sense now.

Alright, I'm gonna go back to square one with the "basic" install without the Fxx files. However, I'm gonna try it on my Windows 10 computer.

In addition, I'm working on whatever that V3 virtual system stuff that's in another thread here. Hopefully, that might point me in the right direction.
