Another battery thread

I saw in another thread that this was the correct battery for our cars.---
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B006N91C2M...I1R3CX7K17MUF5

I called local BMW/VW specialist shop and he quoted me a battery with 900 cold cranking amps. The above battery from Amazon is only 800 CCA. What do we need for our cars?

The one I got was 850 CCA and I live in cold winter weather. You'll be fine with 800 CCA.

If a canadian can make due with 850 CCA, then a North Carolinian will absolutely be fine with 800 CCA. Down here in Texas if I breathe on the car hard enough it should fire right up. Not exactly any "cold" down here.

Agree, also make sure you are replacing an AGM battery or have the ability to have the different battery type coded.

Did you see the group 49 ACDelco AGM on Amazon for $180? It has 900 CCA if that would make you happier. The group 49 is a bit larger than the group 94 but apparently fits although tightly.

Yes the 49 is a really tight fit getting the bracket on. I had to enlist my teenager.

OK that Delco is an AGM what is stock on our cars? Is there any real issues with using the AGM?

"Agm is black and flooded cell is white." Check your battery and see which battery you have. They vary from car to car. Make sure to code it properly. For everyone reading through here check this: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1293262 thread as well before asking questions.

Thank you torque3 for attaching that thread. I was hoping to not have to restate all that I did in the other thread.

I remember first coming here and asking way too many questions that had all been covered. At least now we have a few stickies that have curtailed most of the questions. I'm shocked I've been here long enough and read enough threads to be able to go back and find them. Just trying to do my part. Keep up the fantastic work!

cca is less important than reserve power (Amp hours or AH) in a diesel car. Also very important for longevity is coding the car to the new battery.

Still dragging my feet about buying a battery. Everyone I call wants $100 just to register the battery. I might be better off just buying a tool that will let me do it myself.
So opinions please. The three contenders I see are Foxwell NT510 on sale for $155. ISTA $89 plus $70 for dongle. Carly which I have read is buggy and and has bricked cpu's.

I am kind of leaning toward the NT510. With nt510 is it able to change to a AGM battery? I am not going to go nuts trying to code my car, I'll let someone else do that for me. I just want to completely clear hidden codes and change the battery. Anyone have experience with this tool?

I have the Schwaben scan tool. It's basically an ECS Tuning branded NT-510 with the BMW software pre-installed. I highly recommend it. Cost me about $200. I have used it to prime the fuel pump, as I don't want to be some cranking scrub(easily the biggest debate in here). I also used it to reset adaptations after a transmission flush, and use it to read BMW codes and do diagnostics. It's also able to recode a battery, but it won't change battery types. It's weird you can't find a lower price. The indy shop by me charges $60.

Where are you at in NC? I am in the triad . I already purchased the NT510, and I do see register battery available for E92 . Foxwell just sent me an email for my F25 battery registration . It wasn't there before under the scan vin profile but instead under manual selection.

Crown BMW wanted $165 the first time and when I showed up to talk to a rep they said $190.

ISTA is "free" if you search around e90post for a download, and if you go for both ISTA D and P its more capable than any other software

Yo I am in the same boat in Wilmington NC, is there anything the Schwaben tool doesn't do? I remember reading the ISTA does everything, but from reading that seems to be the more involved. I am used to simple one scanners and basic interface. I would like to register battery, prime fuel pump, reset adaptations, some basic coding (mirrors fold in etc), and trigger regen(lowest priority as I plan to misplace the alphabet in less than a year)

I know it can allow you to change the value of injectors , register a battery , and basically talk to any module on the car . (Edit) there are two models that allow to code a second key fob and nt510 is one of them.

Copied from ECS is below but each model has a bunch of things. As for real coding such as mirror etc, I don't think it does that.

Bought my car at Crown - would not recommend them. I have moved and am now in southside Virginia - Clarksville. There are only two foreign car repair places around, and they are very proud of their prices. I am still close enough drive to Raleigh, Durham or even Greensboro, I just waste half a day driving to any of them. I have not checked out shops there.

So with the new email from Foxwell are you now able to change a battery to AGM as well as register it?

The Foxwell will register a new battery but does not allow you to change the amps and I'm pretty sure you cannot use it to change the battery type.

No, just registers it. If the amp hour is the same then it just resets the charge cycle, mileage, and etc. I purchased a battery from the dealer and it is all black AGM so I don't need to change that. For my E92 its all white flooded lead acid and i still purchased from dealer . I think for my next one for my E92 I will do the Walmart H8 as it is $125. It's half the price.

Well after going past register battery there were more questions . Such as a dot matrix code / 6- digit code and then the negative terminal number engraved .
