Quieter Exhaust
Just had a Britalman (sp?) installed on the car and wow... it's deep, maybe a bit too deep when driving at normal speeds. I want to install resonators before the mufflers, do you think this will quiet it down a bit?

I would think a little bit of both but I am not sure. If you compare the e90 exhaust note to the e92 exhaust note that can give you an idea. The reason being that the e90 has resonators and the e92 doesnt....

Thanks again... hmmm... as long as I can get rid of the ultra deep note that sometimes slightly rattles the dash between 1800-2500 RPM I'll be good.

hmm...based on experience, a "resonator" only takes away high frequencies like rasp. Adding a resonator won't solve your problem.
Usually, if you are trying to change the sound of a car, you have to change the muffler.

if it is you won't get rid of the drone (deep resonation) at all. i've done it all. Resonators, Xpipe. just the rear muffler with OEM piping=drone drone drone.

What i noticed is that resonators will remove some of the rasp you hear but it seems like your problem is low end drone not rasp. And because its a auto, its nearly impossible to get rid of the drone. Im not sure why, but after hearing numerous of the same exhausts on autos and manuals, autos ALWAYS drone. |

on my audi i had an exhaust made with only a muffler after the cats... omg it rattled my change in the center console and gave me a headache 2 days in a row. went back and installed a resonator, made a world of difference! i think the resonator will work for u. good luck

I'm running RR Dp and Britalman Exhaust and after 2 weeks of driving got used to the loudness. Maybe it just me, but I like my car loud...

Its so true, you have to get used to the new sound...I thought my exhaust was loud compared to stock, but after a month with it, it seems its not loud enough now!1!!!!

Resonators are to take away high pitched sounds. Some people might say that they added a resonator to the system and it helped, but they really added a muffler that they thought was a resonator. A pure resonator is a perforated straight through design with no packing, but I would also consider the ones with packing to be a resonator. Units that enter on the left and exit on the right (making some sort of curve) is considered a muffler in my book.

Maybe 1-2 crank hp? Once you start adding curves and baffles then now you're talking loos of hp.

I've had the Britalman on my car for 8 months now - resonators will not get rid of the drone nor will adding an x-pipe. And yes, it does drone. I'm just waiting to get time to swap it out.

Why not sell the new exhaust and put the stock unit back on. You are not gaining alot of HP anyways with a aftermarket exhaust and if you are adding resonators you are probably going to lose some of the gains anyways.
