New 335i owner
Hey guys,
I just recently upgraded from my 320i to a 2010 e90 335i lci Since this is my first 335i I want some opinions on mods to start. 1. JB4 2. Drop in filter 3. Cat back exhaust. This is what I was thinking to start. I don't want to go for crazy power but would be happy with close to 300kW so doing turbo upgrades and mods like that aren't in the books for me. I also plan to put the eibach pro kit in as I had it on my 320i and was happy with the ride. I'm curious as to what sort of exhaust members on here think sound and perform well Also I wanted to purchase Supreme Power front perches as the only downside to the eibach kit is the front wasn't quite low enough. Though they don't seem to ship to Australia. Are there any local suppliers that sell a similar product? |

Congratulations on a 335i
Post some images! The three items you chose would cost around 2.5-3k. A better way would be to get: Mhd flash tuner custom tune and decent intercooler. That will cost around $1500 and give you better piece of mind. Then you should price in spark plugs and coils straight up to avoid any misfires. Most likely need an intake valve clean to get it running sweet too. I think bc coilovers are easy to get in Aus and cheap Please don't buy an eBay intercooler |

Seems like vrsf catless DP give decent power returns as well as sound with stock exhaust. And their cheaper the a full cat back. Might just go that route.
Yes I will be getting all new spark plugs, how much $$$ do coils run? No eBay intercooler here. Haha. Will spend the extra to get a good one. Any suggestions? |

Vrsf down pipes are a good price.
Could cost around 2-300. Not sure what the go is currently for intercoolers. Wagner EVO 2 Vrsf 7 inch stepped ATM stepped intercooler if you can get hold of one Evolution race works ETS 7inch All will cool well Whichever one you can find the cheapest I would get. |

Well I do have a mate with an n54 already. He's done quite a few mods to it. I'll see which one he's got. I'm pretty sure he got it from the US

Welcome aboard. Congrats on the new ride. 300 kw will take more then a tune and downpipes I'm afraid. Even with aftermarket turbos and FBO running 98 there are very few cars running 300 kw. You will def need E85 or meth, upgraded LPFP etc to crack 300

If you're going to MHD it, do the plugs and coils first, or you'll more than likely end up with a misfire like I did lol |

I was thinking more 300kW at the crank. Not the wheels
The only downside I see to MHD is that the tune can't be adjusted as easily as jb4. Basically he said with jb4 you can adjust the tune with the controls on the steering wheel in seconds. My mate suggested the Mishimoto intercooler. (Same one he has) paid about 900 for it. Said it was a straight bolt on. I'm curios as to why people are suggesting changing coils if there isn't anything wrong with them?. I get replacing spark plugs though. Like I said. 75kW over stock. Not looking to get crazy.........yet Last edited by BM3Rrrr; 03-12-2017 at 06:57 AM.. |

definately get a FMIC, get the MHD, CP with BOV and DP's.
Lots of guys find the extra noise created from DP's with oem exhaust is enough otherwise a bmw PE adds a lot more exhaust noise. (Ive heard good reports re the corsa exhaust which is distributed locally also I believe) |

As for coils, the tune puts a strain on the ignition system. The coils degrade over time (as little as 3-4 years and 30-40k kays as they're buried deep inside the engine and heat kills them) Watch this video for an understanding |

MHD is an app for Android devices, from the Google Play store. Its free, all you pay for is the map pack that you want. (About 100 bucks for stage 1 if I remember correctly). You'll need to buy a D-CAN cable (search the " Aussies thoughts on MHD flash" thread here in the forum for the right one) and have an on-the-go cable for the device. Follow the instructions to the letter or you'll wipe your ecu like I did haha. |

Its quite frustrating when you start getting misfires (being a noob I thought I had blown the engine haha) its just common sense nowadays to add coils and plugs everytime you tune a car. |

The LCI 335i's have thin plastic CP which at elevated boost levels blows off the inlet and shatters... Buy a metal CP with a good quality BOV (turbosmart go for raceport if you like pshhh noises or plumb back like I did for stealth) as the oem DV's can cause issues also at elevated boost levels. |

Okay so here is what I'm going to get so far from information gathered
1. MHD 2. BMS CP 3. VRSF Catless DP 4. BMS Drop in Filter 5. FMIC (Mishimoto???) 6. BMW PE (maybe....see how it sounds with just the DP) 7. Coils & Plugs I feel that's a pretty good start Can anyone suggest some good parts suppliers for any of the above. Especially the FMIC as the Mishimoto is quite expensive $800 US. I read that VRSF makes one for close to half the price as well BMS has one for even cheaper. Also 5" stepped or 7"?? |

New 335i owner piggy-backing this thread
Hi All,
Some good information here, thanks! I am also a fairly new 335i owner, and have been investigating the options for ECU maps. Although JB4 seems to get a lot of publicity, MHD seems the way to go (both advice from specialists and the above thread!) Wasn't aware of the CP issues, will definitely be looking into that as a part of the upgrade. Does anyone have any solid stats on probable increaes in hp and torque? Couple photos of my car attached Cheers Kev |
