Sputtering at low RPM in 1st gear? (shiftable AT)

i have a 2012 328i E92

it has the shiftable AT (if that matters?), around 52k miles

recently i've started to notice the RPM sputtering a bit in two different scenarios. both of them while the car is in 1st gear.

1. sitting at a stoplight, in 1st gear, brake applied. at first it's fine. but the longer i sit there it starts to sputter. i see the RPM needle jump/drop about 200rpm.

2. as i take off, if i don't feather the accelerator through 1st gear, it'll sputter a bit until it gains RPM/speed. generally once it shifts to 2nd gear the sputtering doesn't occur anymore.

what is the standard resting RPM that i should be looking at? mine generally sits around 500rpm.

so i took my car to get emission tested and perfect timing, the check engine light came on as he was handing me the "PASS" paper.

he noticed and was compelled to re-test my car. it failed throwing a "P0304 Cylinder 4 Misfire Detected" code.

i googled:

What causes the P0304 code?

Faulty spark plug
Faulty plug wires, cap and rotor, and/or coil pack
Mechanical engine issue
Intake leak
Fuel issues

so it looks like it's most likely a spark plug issue or an ignition coil issue?

Replace both, and all of them.
Just my 2 cents.....

Or try chevron with Techron on your next fill up.
Get the best most expensive gas.
Run the tank to clear up any injectors.
