M3 Cluster Retrofit Custom Gauges Group Buy Discussion
Hi Guys,
For a while I've been looking at doing the M3 cluster retrofit for my 335i, and am comfortable with knowing it just takes some coding and little tweaking to get it to work perfectly with our cars. However, the OCD freak in me is annoyed that the hard red line on the gauge face drops back down to 8.4k rpms after you shut the car off. Being that I want things perfect, I've contacted Black Cat Customs about making a tach face that will be the same OEM M3 gauge face but with the hard red line beginning at 7k rpms and not 8.4k, and they have said they can do it no problem. Another thing I asked them to do, which is not standard on the M3 cluster, is to make so that the ///M logo lights up at night when the cluster is illuminated, to which they also said no problem. I have received a quote from them for making this custom gauge face set, however there is a setup fee involved. I have asked them about a group buy discount, and am waiting to hear back at the moment. In the meantime, I wanted to put this out to the community to see who would be interested in this? Their current price is $89 for a set with an $85 setup/layout fee. I figure spread the $85 out between however many of us are interested and a discount on the normal price would make this an awesome upgrade! It's a shame to put all that money into retrofitting the M3 cluster, and then not having it perfect. Please let me know, otherwise I will just have to do this mod solo and post results later. Thanks!

I recontacted Black Cat. Is there interest to pursue a custom cluster face for those that added a M3 cluster?
Options would be a 5K redline for the diesel version and a 7-8K redline for the gassers. Cheers! |

Here's the scoop:
Black Cat would waive the design fee for confirmed orders of 8 sets of the same design. For less than eight, the design fee would be divided among the number of orders. Designs:
The pricing would be $89 per set of two, one MPH that matches the existing design and one RPM gauge based on the above. I expect to have the "M" logo also to the RPM gauge. Let me know if you have interest. |

Obviously, I don't have a mock up, but imagine that the RPM dial will feature an evenly spread gauge with the range appropriate to your specific model, whether diesel or gas, along with the M logo.
At this point, depending on interest, there are only the two options mentioned above. If there's enough interest for another version, that could be arranged. Let me know if you have questions. |

Different than what we've been discussing?
Yes, it's possible, but the point of this thread is to get folks to agree on a set amount in an effort to avoid the design cost, which runs $125. As mentioned before, the vendor will waive the design fee for confirmed orders of 8 sets and for less than that, the design fee would be divided amongst the number of orders. This assumes that the orders would all be the same design. |
