eBay Wheels Nightmare

JK. They have been great budget wheels so far.

I took a chance and purchased unbranded wheels from eBay a year ago and have 10K mi on them so far. Driving includes urban pothole roads, multiple 400mi road trips with sustained 100mph sections (45 min @100mph), and some dirt roads for to test the E90 rally style.

I had the sport pkg staggered wheels but went through a set of rears (Firestone Wide Oval Indy 500) in 15k mi and decided I wanted to go with a square setup so I could rotate tires and also utilize the Michelin mileage warranty (void w/ staggered).

Wheels are 18x8 et35 (I think, not listed on eBay). $579 with free shipping. Wheels came with chrome plastic center caps that I put an adhesive metal BMW emblem on for a factory+ look.

Immediately noticed a change in driving dynamics after switching to a square setup. Less stable during 50+mph lane changes. This was remedied by 15mm spacers in the rear last week. $45 Renn Motorsport sold by Sonic Tuning and Amazon Prime. No current pics of the spacers installed but the wheel well is filled the same as it was with the sport pkg wheels.

Michelin Pilot Super Sports were purchased and installed at Costco on the wheels I brought in to them. They switched over the TPMS and placed my aired up stock wheels/tires in plastic bags in the trunk and back seat.

Ebay spéciale 18x8 square 235/40ZR18 Michelin PSS

Just messing with people. Every time I've mentioned buying no-name wheels on eBay it always becomes a heated conversation about how they are going to crack when you mount a tire, leak air, way out out of balance etc.

I had my "told you so" face on when I opened this thread, too...

They look good. I wouldn't track them or anything but for DD use they seem perfectly fine. But I'm really just posting to say cute dog.

I like the tires more than the wheels.

What was the change in driving dynamics?

I currently have a stock square setup and noticed there's a lot of lateral movement when above 75-80 mph. After reading your post ... I'm wondering if some spacers in the rear will help a bit. It's a good excuse to rotate the tires anyway.

I hear so much hate for ebay wheels. They are so tempting in price, glad to see they worked out for you

Weight is the problem for me. I bet they weight more than stock wheels.

Buying premium wheels with superior casting techniques usually comes with it a significant reduction in weight while maintaining structural integrity.

Your car looks great, especially with those wheels and the drop. How did you get such a nice stance on your xi?

Can you recommend an ebay seller for those wheels? I am looking for something very similar.

Thanks,
