Kid wrote on my car with marker

The kid in my parking garage has graduated from writing on my car with his finger to writing on it with permanent blue marker. Can anyone tell me if it is possible to get this out without going to a garage? Before someone says it, I can't send a picture because my camera is broken. Maybe in a week or so once I get the camera back. The mark isn't huge just one line but it is right on the trunk lid so it is very noticable. I am in Madrid, Spain but will ship the car to the US in a few weeks. If I have to go to a garage, I will go to one in N. VA or DC. Any recommendations would be appreciated. I think the boys father and I will have to have a short yet high intensity discussion about touching other people's things...

It should buff out with a little polish. It's only going to be a layer on top, so you can polish off that marker. I can't imagine it would soak into the clear coat or anything. Hell, if you have any sealant or wax it might be come off by just stripping that off. Just don't forget to re-seal and wax the area after you polish it.

Wash the car first, then spray some rubbing alcohol on a microfiber and wipe the affected area and it should come off. If not I bet clay would take it off.

did he write ON the actual car/paint or on the window? if its on the car thats a serious problem... you might have to consult a professional detailer for that

Update on the Marker... While washing the car, I found that my little friend didn't only draw on the trunk lid, he drew from the rear tail light up to the wheel well and onto the rim. He did not write on the window, it was on the paint. I am going to wait to ship my car, hopefully in two weeks and then get really drunk with some SOF friends and conduct my final search and destroy mission. I'd like to beat the tar out of him but can't afford to go to jail for assault. Who is it that said revenge is a dish best served cold? I'll try the alcohol but don't think it will work. I have the car sealed, less than two weeks ago, but nothing I tried got all of the marker off. I got the majority of it off but there is still a dull image of the marker in the paint. I would like to try Sam's idea however... Sounds like a good workout.

once the car gets into the states, i'm sure someone on here or autopia.org would help you getting that marker off the paint

I'd have taken the rock and shoved it so far up his ___ , he'd be spitting out gravel.

Wow.. so harsh..
it's just a kid man. No matter how old the kid is, it's just a kid.
Kick the dad's ass jk
Just make the dad pay for it IF you can prove it was his kid. Let the dad kick the kids ass.
A good polish should take any remaining haze from your clear. if not, you're going to have to wetsand the clear down a bit.

Acetone will get permanent marker off a smooth surface easily... Make sure to clean well afterwards, and wax/seal that area after. Goo gone might work too, but acetone definitely does..

now is a good time to try the "lightest product first" technique. try a regular car wash or a chemical cleaner first. i'm not sure a claybar will help here?
