N52 turbo manifold

It appears that the N52 turbo development thread has been removed. I know that BPC was, and is unwilling to sell even the flanges and the bungs for a turbo manifold. I'm curious how many people in this forum would be willing to develop their own turbo cars if we had bungs and flanges for the manifold?

If we can get enough people (20ish) maybe we can go to one of the N54 shops and have the pieces machined. If I remember correctly bungs and exhaust flanges are available for the N54. Does anyone remember who sells them? Thanks in advance.

Lol. ..imagine that, that suspect. I would try Rb turbo for flanges, they would be the closest

Another thing is try contacting one of the n54 single vendors and have them build a manifold with the needed flanges. That may be the closest kit right now if someone was to move on a kit.

Other people sell them as well: http://www.rbturbo.com/products/acce...e-with-inserts

In my opinion if you guys really want a turbo kit you should have one of the N54 ST companies fab you up one. They are at least familiar with the platform. Like ACF, DocRace, etc. Again, not going to be cheap. We also know from the deleted BPC thread that the tranny has to be replaced at 375 whp iirc. Paying out the nose for a ST kit and then having the tranny swap just blows the project out of the water cost wise. There is no reason to buy a single turbo kit to only make 375WHP. I know people are going to claim that's enough power for them etc. You are never going to drop 10k + install $$$ for a turbo kit to make 375whp. It's just insane. You can literally buy a 335i for 7k and make 375whp with a free tune.

Not to start on the whole buy a 335i thing again but the engine was made for boost unlike the N52. My advice would be to keep all N52s NA. If you want a FI E9X get a 335i. That being said I am sure someone will make you some flanges.

Now a RMT kit could work for this platform. Cheaper and simple especially if you goal is only 350whp.

Torgus,

I'm not building a N52 turbo, I'm building a N52 headed N54 turbo.

Removal of the turbo is interesting. I wasn't even aware that one could remove a thread they started. I ask the administrator, but I have not received an answer. It would be interesting to know wht the thread was removed. LOL

Ahhh gotcha! fwiw fully ported N54 heads with larger valves, upgraded springs, etc. have not been proven to make any difference unless well above 700whp on the N54. Be neat to see how much the N52 head helps.

That whole tranny swap was coming regardless, the plowed level seemed to short. If they really wanted to keep going to find its true potential, then the trans would have been disassembled and found out why 4th went. No one knows the true history of trans in question. The titans should have been able to hold at least twice its power, good cor 400+.

I have my own opinions of BPC at this point. We will leave it at that. I'm working on my project. I don't care about their project or their motives....

It's a real shame BPC deleted their thread. There was tons of information in there for people to reference moving forward who might want to home brew a turbo kit for the n52. Like what did and did not work, what levels things 'seemed' to fail at, their 10 reasons why the consumer kit would not work, adapting the n54 tranny, etc. I can only think they deleted it because it's free information for another shop who might make a turbo kit for the n52. Which really doesn't make any sense as they have no plans to move forward with a consumer ST for the N52. That or, well, you know.

hassmaschine What are your thoughts on this project?

Hobbs, how far are you along this project?

For a turbo N52 you guys might want to try and reach out to http://bigboostusa.com/ they have some nice cast manifold solutions for the N55. I know it's off topic just saying.

So many people posted so much shit on that post that the thread may have overpowered NJ smells, and yet users are surprised that it got deleted?

Reading that thread - esp last pages on it, made me ashamed that I was part of this forum. Esp. after TheAxiom got banned.

Torgus the reason I asked John to delete the thread was not to remove the information. It was because some of the members were acting like children with the posts they were making. I did not want these posts to reflect on us as a company. We have done a lot for the N52 community and do not plan on stopping with the R&D for this platform.

Hobb64 if you are planning to use a N54 bottom end with a N52 top end I would highly suggest looking at the video we made for the N52 VS N54 comparison. If you successfully make it work and get 20 people to go in on a manifold with you the manifold will only work on your setup. The rest of the N52 engines it will not work on.

Guys you cannot just cut off the flanges on a N54 aftermarket manifold and weld on N52 flanges and expect it to fit. The coolant pipe and motor mount bosses/bracket are in a different location. This N54 manifold beside having different flanges will not physically fit with a N52 block.

A cast manifold will not work for a bottom mount period. The motor mount bracket on the N52 does not allow for a small frame turbo to fit down there. Plus you cannot get past the A/C for the intake a charge pipe.

Believe me when I tell you we have hundreds of hrs exploring every option for you guys and at the end of the day to make it work for street kit at a cost effective price is just not an option. I would love for someone to prove us wrong but it just doesn't make sense.

Junior B as far as the trans not coming apart. I was the one driving it when 4th gear let go. I can assure you all the teeth off of 4th gear were gone after I let out the clutch and floored it. I have broken and rebuilt many transmissions before. I know without a doubt it was done and was not worth my time taking it apart for pictures. Plus to my knowledge there are no internal parts available. Also if there were if still would not be as strong as a $600 junkyard N54 trans. BTW I hear what you are saying about it being the same size as the old E36 M3 trans and those transmissions holding big power. It is just not the case with these E90 N52 6 speeds.

I know it is upsetting to a lot of you that we pulled the plug on the street kit. We gave it our best shot and we all learned a lot along the way. It has allowed us to write better tunes and we are still continuing to develop even better tune.

I hope you guys can enjoy the next level we are taking the N52 platform too. Once we feel we have a solid track tested kit we will offer it to you guys. I am hesitant to start another thread showing the progress given how the last one went. If you guys are interested let me know. If not just we'll going to keep it to ourselves until finished.

Thank you
Dan

Keep in mind the 375hp limitation seems to be for the 325/328 transmission. The 330 transmission should be able to handle more. A variant of that transmission (GS6-37BZ) was used in the e46 330i and E85 Z4M, and they've been shown to handle a good bit more than 375whp in those platforms.

In general I think it's better to leave the N52 for n/a, and move onto an N54 for FI (whether that's by buying a new car or swapping in the N54 drivetrain), but if someone is dead set on the N52, a 330i is probably a better starting point.

Your thread was very valuable. The pictures alone are priceless.

Maybe the Moderator can resurrect the thread, clean out the crap and post it back up and then 'CLOSE' the thread. Then all the info will be preserved and enjoyed.

I LITERALLY LOL'd.

That is a crack pipe dream - never going to happen. When was the last time you saw a mod on this section?

I guess it was when they were banning TheAxiom.

LMAO no wonder why the NA section seems less petty these past few days. He was asking to get banned for the longest time.

Hobbs, so they say there still may be a hot sidenow we can see of it was all worth it. You know, there is going to be numerous issues with that head on the 54 block., would putting steel liners in the 52 be easier? Maybe a n55 block?
