California Legacy Plates

Has anyone ordered and received the legacy personalized plates recently? I know in the past there was a three month wait but I assume that was because there was a backlog. Just ordered a set a few days ago was curious when I would be getting them.

I called DMV a few days ago and they said these plates are backed up up to 3-4 months from order date. Can just hope to get it in sooner The approval/review process itself takes 6-10 weeks.

By the time I got my plate I had to renew my registration and pay the additional $40 renewal fee on top of the $50 originally paid.

Are we supposed to pay for the $40 renewal fee for the first year?

I understand the allure of personalized plates... but why in the world do you want to pay an annual cash grab fee for $40 just to keep on record plates you already own? Or am I missing something on how these legacy plates work?

I don't have to pay anything annually to keep the normal white plates? But with the success Cali will have on the black plates... I'm sure in the near future they will continue on with the cash grab to do some kind of annual fee on normal plates too.

Why can't I just get "personalized" plates and have some third party make me any kind of plate I want? What if I want green plates... as long as the font and reflective amount is correct and it has the word CALIFORNIA on the top center... why can't i just make my own plate?

You won't see it anytime soon either........ I have been transferred to NC. I did make it to one of the OC meets. Was a good time. Would have liked to attend more.
