this new dme will be sensitive to any parameters changed.will be able to pretty much detect anything that is even to the slightess abnormal and record it.record everything and store it for bmw techs and engineers eyes only.

Can someone explain to me why most of these doomsday threads are being started by people with less than 50 posts and no credibility (not all, but most)?

And not one of these retarded posts tells us anything we didn't already know! Jesus people, just go about your business. Nothing changed in the last week that we didn't know or expect a year ago...

Ok, I believe you. It just seems strange that a lot of these posts are from people with not a lot of posts. And some of the OPs post then never come back to answer questions... Thanks for filling us in on your background though!

Hey no problem, didn't mean any offense, but the amount of doomsday threads around here are insane. However, this sounds like heresay, time will tell.

I'm curious though:

Some are saying that the JB1, SSTT and so forth are working "just fine" on the new v81 DME
But does anybody know if the DME has stored the fact those piggybacks have been attached?

Nobody will know that fact until they take the piggyback off and take the v81 DME in to a BMW center and have them read the DME.
It would suck for them if the new DME really did store that they put a piggyback (or in the case of the JB1 and SSTT pretty much a resistor on).

Wonder who is going to be the first to actually install a piggyback INTO the ECU of the v81 DME and test if it does still work?

If not, whoa, guess the pre 3/08 built 335i's (and very few 135i's) will suddenly increase in value for an enthusiast who wants to tune.

While I can see your point in regards to post count, I'm not so sure that its always a great indicator of a poster's knoweldge basis or how much he/she reads the boards.

I've been lurking for well over a year, reading the boards religiously...hours a day. I just recently registered and actually started posting. Sure I have less than 100 posts, but I would not consider that indicitive of how much I read and follow the situations we are facing.

So as not to totally jack the thread...I spoke with my SA today after reading all of the posts regarding the N54 tuner witchhunt. I've had 3 BMWs (including 2 Dinan Signature cars...99 E46 328, 05 E60 545, and 08 E92 335) serviced under this SA since they were brand new off the lot and he advised that I had nothing to worry about...actually he is a service manager now and I'll take his word for it.

Pull out the ECU and read the label on the unit. I will verify alot of the hearsay around here when I get to it, but don't worry too much just yet. It's all speculation thus far.

You have been around the Lexus IS crowd for a while, and I built HUNDREDS of them, Lexus changed ECU's many times, "tightened the threshold" on many parameters and NONE ever presented a problem. Manufacturers do not sit on their butts without revising anything.

BTW, the 335i is faster than the IS in stock form (duhh) but it holds no candle to a boosted IS. Handling, the IS has it covered. Trust me, I've owned 2 IS's, both special ordered brand new and now the BMW. (just a mini FYI since many IS owners wandered over here) And now I await all the flaming comments on how Lexus' are rice from BMW fanatics.
