Full Exhaust

Hey All,

Still haven't posted my official introduction thread yet, but it's coming! The car was washed and waxed, but haven't had the time to take pictures yet

Anyways, I've planned on modding this car since I originally had the idea to buy it. Just like all my cars

That being said, I've done my research and have become pretty well versed in the available modifications/tunes and who supplies them.

Does anyone has any experience with the exhaust by P&L Motorsport? They sell a 3" downpipe as well as a cat-back system on AARodriguez website. They have a package deal that comes with a full turbo-back exhaust. It looks nice and high quality. The price is probably somewhere in between the cheapest option available, and having an exhaust custom made here locally. I am aware of the system made by Iaknown. Just looking for any feedback you might have on P&L Motorsport.

Just an FYI, that exhaust is nowhere near the cheapest option available. Profi exhaust is $1100 shipped, just to name one option.

The P&L looks to be of great construction, but it is going to be loud.

I know the P&L is not the cheapest. I meant the P&L price seems to be in between the cheapest priced full exhaust system and the price of getting one custom built. Wasn't aware of the Profi exhaust option. I will look into that. Thank you.

Yes it looks really nice and high quality, but I'm worried about fitment. Want to make sure everything lines up and won't have to be bending and modifying things (more than one would expect with aftermarket parts).

I've been thinking about it for a few months now. I can't seem to find an exhaust that would make it worth it to me. The full exhaust options look great, but sound and performance wise, Im not sure its justifiable. I believe that just the DPF and gutted SCR sounds just as good if not better than most of the exhaust options out right now!

The only thing is, you have to get a Y pipe custom fit to go from the down pipe to the exhaust pipes.

You aren't doing a full exhaust for any performance gains. For the $$$ I really don't see the point.

Weight savings and sound. The only reasons to buy a full exhaust.

I also don't want to chop up my factory exhaust. In case the car is ever sold In the future, I always keep all factory components I remove intact.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't the DPF and SCR filter need to be removed to unlock the true potential of these cars?

So will any 335i midsection and rear work on a 335d?

Correct. You have to remove both. I'll also say that tuning and deleting these vehicles and then arguing "resale" is a bad idea. Your best option at that point is to sell to someone that already wants it tuned and deleted. Going back to factory involves retuning the DDE to stack, re-installing a DPF, and re-installing the old exhaust. They're worth more tuned and deleted to the right buyer anyways. I just chopped up my stock exhaust and have no inhibitions about it. I plan on keeping this car a very long time.

I planned on buying a spare DDE and having my factory DDE cloned by the tuner. True, the car will be worth more modded and tuned to the right buyer. I'd argue that the same goes for a car with factory equipment and stock tune. That's what some buyers are looking for. It's just how I've always done it with my cars.

Fair. Good luck finding a spare DDE, unless AARodriguez will let one go. They bought all of them up in order to have their Zero Down Time Program.

I spoke to an installer today that said the P&L SCR delete system was having fitment issues going to stock mufflers. Bummer b/c that was my plan. I'm looking at Iaknown's system now.

I was planning on doing their full turbo back so that wouldn't be an issue for me. Just wondering how the rest of the fitment is.

Those of you guys looking at the P&L system watch out... I was pretty bummed out about the fitment of the system for being nearly $2000. all of the connection points were warped from welding and would not seal with the provided wafer gaskets, I ended up having to use permatex muffler sealer plus the gasket. It also touched my diff before bending the pipe that splits and goes to the tips a little more. They used good materials though, and the welds were decent.

Edit: AARodriguez is an awesome company to deal with just wanted to throw that out since you mentioned them!
