I heard that some people were have trouble removing the intake manifold and related parts so yesterday we took a quick video showing how to remove the

-Air Filter Box
-CCV Tube and clips
-Strut braces
-Engine Cover
-Intake Manifold
-EGR Valve
-Throttle Valve
-EGR cooler

The unedited video is 21 minutes long, this means if you lay your tools out ahead of time and you're not being filmed you should be able to remove the list of parts above in 15 minutes or less.

I don't have a mechanic that I trust so any wrenching done here is done by me and you can't hire me by the hour.

I only do builds for customers that I like, I probably work on 3-6 cars per month, the rest of the time I'm running the warehouse or away on business trips.

I know exactly what you mean! I work on cars on side for fun and go fast money... every now and then I will squeeze in a brake job for a friend that is tight on cash and tell them pay me whatever (sets me up for disappointment) and get $20 ... when it comes to a few friends I let it slide cause that is what good friends are for.

You have to make it worth your time!

Good idea. Those connectors are the worst. Had to take pliers to them more than once to squeeze that back piece.

TDIwyse, yes its a milwaulke, i paid 110$ canadian new on ebay for mine. its an ok tool. i was way more impressed by the 12v impact driver than the ratchet. only useful once you loosen the bolt in tight areas.

2457-21 is the model number that I was using, it's important to get that one because it's the highest torque cordless ratchet they make and it tightens to a pretty much "perfect" spec for most applications. It also loosens most items without the need for a non electric ratchet, that would be annoying.

It was pretty fast for me but that danged bolt under the egr/throttle took me forever to get back in.
I also took some time to cut the swirl flaps shaft to remove them and threaded in a short screw on the outside facing part with epoxy to seal the exposed shaft hole. Poor man's swirl flap delete!

Great video. One question: what is the socket size for the center of the the strut braces? I know inverted torx, and larger than my set goes, but I have lots of conflicting answers when searching.

You can use a 14mm 6 point on it.

I successfully used a hex socket on it my first time removing it too, before I had seen it and just thought it was a hex head. I think its either an E18 or E16.

Harbor Freight's set has the right sizes... go grab it...totally worth it

When I torque that guy, it's been a struggle. The spec is 74 lb-ft +100 deg angle. I can get the 74 partbut the socket starts slipping on me 1/2 way through the angle. I'm using the correct E torx. Only exception was when I got the m strutbrace parts from bone yard, I grabbed that bolt too. First time I torqued it, I was able to get the full 90 deg angle ( I can't visualize down to 10 deg past 90 to get 100).

Part of my problem is using the ~3" tall extension. Can anyone offer a trick? Does the 14 mm 6 point hold better?

Great video just did the same job on my car and i Think i might be faster he messes up sizes of tools a couple of times .. i know What every nut and bolt is and i use an Electric makita for every screw witch is alot faster than What he uses ..

Were you removing the EGR cooler completely or just taking it off for service?
