CEL/"Engine malfunction" after JB4 Install

I have a 2010 bmw 335i. Besides the recently installed JB4, it is stock. After install, I have an intermittent CEL that comes on when I don't drive it like a grandma. Past 3.5-4k is when it will appear. It clears itself every time when I turn off the car.

The recorded CEL's are "2f6c exhaust fumeflap" and "30ff boost under target - possible boost leak"

I have a datalog but I don't know how to upload it to this forum as a CSV file. Can anyone suggest what is wrong and how to fix?

Codes are pretty much the issue.

2f6c just means you have the exhaust flapper valve actuator unplugged keeping it open, so that is unrelated to your CEL.

30ff is a pretty normal error and since adding more boost with the JB4, you probably have a boost leak, you can either smoke test the car or do some sleuthing to find it.

Most likely candidate is probably the charge pipe leaking, they tend to crack near the manifold end, could also be a few other pipes or the diverter valves.

Best thing to do is test with JB4 in stock mode and see if you still have issue if not, then extra boost is creating leak. If still an issue, remove the JB4 and see if it is fine, then probably installed wrong.

This is solid advice. Why then did these two codes only pop up right after the JB4 install? I just bought the car a couple months ago and prior to install, everything was fine.

Normally we turn on autoclear on the JB4 so those errors are not displayed and always cleared.

However while you may get the second error, you should look into it possibly being accurate.

The higher boost may be exposing a leak that does not trigger a fault at normal levels.

Do you have an aftermarket charge pipe?

Hold old is the one you have?

30FF could mean menu4 in dash is set wrong (should be set to 3), DWP/FF is set wrong, boost leak, vacuum line leak, etc.

Sounds like it there is either something wrong with the install or settings.
I recommend post the datalog to BMS and send them a screenshot of your settings

I tested the jb4 on the stock map and the cel still came on.

I posted on n54tech and this link shows the advice bms gave me which is kind of confusing.

I believe I switched that setting to make sure it's set to 3. Didn't fix it.

I should also say that pre cell or post cel the car feels stock even slightly sluggish.
