So I never thought I would say this, but here it is...The 2017 Grand Cherokee is actually pretty impressive as an all around SUV, even when compared to the X3, X5.
I had a 2017 JGC Limited with a sticker of 43k for a week, and compared to the 2016 X5, and 2014 X3's I have driven, I think it is at least as good in the following area:

1. Ride/Confort(soft touch dash and high quality leather seats)
2.Technology/Info system
3. Looks/aesthetics of the outside of the SUV
Needless to say, the GGC beats the BMW SUV's as far as off road abilities, and on price(priced a 2017 X5- xdrive 35i, and it came to $67,045)

Now that being said, I am a BMW fan all the way, it was just interesting to see how the competition stacks up. The X3, and X5 are obviously more refined, and have more of a luxury touch, but even in this area, the JGC isn't too far behind.

Anyone else here own or been able to have an extended drive of the new Grand Cherokee?

I had a 2012 overland summit hemi. I liked it a lot. Have a 2013 MB GL450 now. Like it more.

My mom has a 2014 limited and its nice, even with the v6.

My only concern is with reliability of any Chrysler product. My own 2012 wrangler is no exception to this rule, along with moms JGC, and dad's challenger. They have all had big problems.

No issues with ours. We owned it new to 97k miles.

They are super nice. We have a an X5 Diesel with sport package (315s tires out back) and I love it, been 100% reliable, great torque and handles really well. I got a 2017 X5 3.5 non sport as a loaner this week and hated it. The center of gravity felt really high, it felt tippy, no such sensation in our X5. Likely has a lot to do with wider stance and sport pkg. I'd buy the Jeep over the 2017 but not over ours.

C'mon OP, the GC is like an 8 yr old design and its made by Chrysler too. Aside from off-roading capabilities it's inferior to the Bimmers in every facet imaginable.

well to be fair, both the bimmers and the JCP have received minor facelifts in the last few years, but yes, the basic platform is older.

In my OPINION, the Jeep GC offers an overall better value for the money spend with regards to an SUV. If we look at the pros and cons, the jeep is better off road, and the BMW has a slightly more refined interior, so those two cancel each other out.

Im curious, aside from the Jeep name not having the "Status" BMW has, what reasons would you not put a JCP in the same league as a x3 or x5?

I had a 2013 WK2 Hemi....was nice..til I added a Hemifever tune and H&R springs....then it was SWEEETTTT!

MY2020/2021... new JGC with multiple engine options....2.0L turbo...V6 twin turbo...3.6 Pentastar....maybe a new Hemi V8. Supposedly the 6.4l is out.

My friend had the SRT8. Nice to look at from the outside, and of course it was fast, but the interior didn't impress me. It was amazing how worn out the leather looked even after only two years. The transmission was giving him issues, and Chrysler could never fix it, so he got rid of it.

Have a 17 GC SRT since Dec. 14000kms on it so far and really nothing to complain about aside from fuel economy. Gone snowboarding multiple times thru deep snow, 2 week road trip from Vancouver to LA, hit 238km/h once, towed a 24ft boat, towed a 20ft enclosed trailer (~6000lbs loaded) for 1000 kms, gone on track, all on the same set of tires and its my wife's daily. Fit and finish is great. Uconnect works great. New 8 speed works well with the 6.4 hemi. Tows better than most 1/2tons I've tried. 19 speaker upgraded sound system sounds lovely. Upgraded performance brakes with 2 pc rotors stops on a dime. Love the adaptive cruise control and the self parking feature for tight parallel spots. Modes including SNOW/AUTO/SPORT/TRACK/TOW and has launch control. It does everything I want it to do and it hauls ass. As mentioned, only downside is fuel economy (roughly 14.5mpg average). For the money, you can't beat it. Traded in the previous wife's daily at retail and got the Jeep at cost.

Was planning to have fun with it for a bit while waiting to replace it with the new Land Rover Discovery but decided to stick with the Jeep brand and got in line for a Trackhawk. Can't wait for that 707hp.

Good choice on the track hawk. Car and Driver did a great write up on it in the June issue, and its basically gonna be the SRT on steroids, even having 86 more hp that the $265k Mercedes G65, and an ungoverned top speed.

With a price of $80k give or take, that a lot of bang for your buck.

Yeah, like I hear about JGC fuel pump problems, spontaneous fires, and other electrical problems all the time, just like BMWs . BTW, the current gen JGC came out in 2012...so only 5 years, not 8 years. It's a classic design as well. Have you driven one? Have you driven a JGC SRT or soon the JGC Trailhawk (Hellcat)? Probably not.

I'm sorry you feel this way. Maybe you should go out and test drive some cars once in a while. I've purchased 2 FCA products last year and I'm very impressed with the both of them, more so than any BMW I've owned and tested. Not to bash BMW as I still have 3, but nothing aside from the upcoming M2cs raises any interest from me in the showroom. M5 maybe but drove the new 540 and M550 and felt really disconnected.

I wouldn't buy a Chrysler. Up there in the top 3 in terms of crappy reliability.
The Audi QS lines don't look too bad. friend has a GLC and it's not bad compared to a X3.

I grew up in the metro Detroit area very close to Chrysler and the Big 3 overall. I know very well how garbage these companies are.

And where did you get 2012 from? It was released mid-2010.

Driving dynamics, interior material and build quality, infotainment, styling, reliability (not kidding), not being an 8 yr old vehicle that was engineered during Chrysler's darkest era, need i go on?

I wouldn't touch a Jeep/Dodge/Chrysler product. At my job, we have 2 Durangos and a GC which is assigned to me that I drive daily. They all have had issues from transmissions, A/C, Oil leak. The other 2 guys that drive the Durangos say they would never buy a Jeep/Dodge/Chrysler product.
