Clutch is toast, any flywheel recommendations? (6mt)
Hey guys, I had the great pleasure of driving 40 min home on a slipping clutch last night, this morning the smell was still lingering.
I am going to replace with 335is/550i clutch kit Is there a flywheel that I can upgrade to as well? The damn thing is like $1.3k I noticed that the S55 dual mass fly wheel is just 100$ more.. So that makes me ask this: Is there any other DMFW I can upgrade to? I just want to drive my car in peace from now on. ![]() mods: fbo, ps2, inlet, dv+, fuelit stage 2 |

here is the cheapest I found the flywheel a few months ago looks to still be the same price $708:
http://www.partsgeek.com/ss/?i=1&ssq...6852&x=25&y=10 there was some talk of a german company working on an upgraded replacement part but I have not seen anything else about it. With the stock flywheel you may get false misfires on the top end if you add PI to max out the ps2, but the solid flywheel has its own disadvantages. I went with the spec 2+ since i may go ps2 down the line(trying to be satisfied with just bolt ons) i was worried about the 550i clutch holding aftermarket turbo, i am very happy with it, I cant tell if its heavier than the stock pedal since both cars I was driving while mine was in the shop are manuals. but I would still describe it as a light clutch and if I didnt tell you, you would never think it was not stock when driving it. |

You mean you went with the spec2+ kit completely? Their clutch and the steel smfw? That would be a much cheaper combo for me and if it is both clutch and smfw and it still feels the same then I maybe sold |

Spec 2+ and SMFW is about 11 or 1200. When doing it, don't go cheap. There are other things necessary when doing a clutch change; bolts, fluid among them.
I have Pure Dos and PI so I snagged an MFactory SMFW and Spec 3+ clutch for 1200 on a group buy. |

no i went spec 2+ and stock fly wheel, i was not to worried about the chatter but there are several people who talk about an awful noise from the drive train when accelerating in high gears around 3k, i use my car for road trips so I dont want to ruin it for that.

I ended up ordering the spec3+ with the mfactory smfw. Pretty much same price if I wanted to go through with the 335is and oem FW.
I'll update once I get them in ![]() |

Smart move Diox. You won't end up wondering if you need to upgrade if you go hog wild power wise. Remember to replace the aluminum bolts, fluid... Maybe a short shifter?

Yes, if you were ever going to do a short shifter, now is the time. Its a complete pain in the ass to do. My clutch went out a couple weeks after i installed it. Would have been so much easier to do when the trans was already out of the car.

The Dinan short shifter is ok, and doesn't cost more than the other guys. It shortens the throw. As far as money, everything on these costs money. A love hate relationship.
