N55 Ticking

I know these engines can make different noises and ticking. This noise only happens when idling and comes and goes. Its driving me up the wall. Any ideas what could be causing it.

Perfectly normal. The noise is coming from the injectors.

in my experience, using better/different oil can sometimes make it quieter

It's just the injectors. Nothing to worry about. Why it comes and goes is beyond me, but I've always accepted it as a regular N55 thing.

This noise had me googling rod knock for weeks lol. It's normal (or so we all hope).

Oil doesn't seem to have anything to do with it. I've heard the tap right off a fresh oil change. Also, just because an oil results in less noise doesn't mean it's any "better" except to your ears...

Yup. Piezo injectors as I understand it.

I get drivetrain noise (manual transmission) as well.

These 335's are not quiet cars.

N55 does not have Piezo injectors. From what I've seen, the clank is vacuum pump related. Take your oil cap off and you'll hear it.
