Best way to launch with AT xi?
I'm wondering what people have found to be the best method for launching to get the best quarter mile time.
1. Launching in Sport mode 2. Launching in Manual mode starting in 1st gear 3. Launching in Manual mode starting in 2nd gear I know a lot of people with RWD launch in 2nd for traction issues but I don't seem to run into any traction issues with my XI even upgraded turbos. Thanks

Manual, 1st Gear, Brake Boosting - not the best for your transmission or drivetrain though. Oh and get ready to shift and turn off traction control.

Thanks Jeff. Yeah I tried to launch in Manual mode, 2nd gear, brake boosting but it felt slow. Felt like the tranny was slipping. I wish it shifted faster from 1st to 2nd without the feeling that you get a sudden loss of power between shifts. Shifting in higher gears feels great though.

My 1-2 shift is lightning fast compared to stock, was on Alpina and now I'm using Stage 3 XHP. If your tranny is slipping, I'd change the fluid and mechatronic sleeve ASAP & I wouldn't plan on doing any more launches if you want to extend the life of it. |

I was running the alpina but switched to xhp stage 3. I've been using xhp stage 3 since it was first released. Using version 2.1 right now.
I only have 48k miles on my car. Do you think I need to change the trans fluid and mechantronic sleeve already? It only felt like it was slipping that one time I brake boosted and launched in 2nd gear(manual mode). Quote:

I like it better. D mode is definitely better and it seems to shift a tad faster than alpina and definitely downshifts a lot faster.

I personally can't stand Drive in Alpina and the shift speed in XHP Stage 3 were noticeable enough for me to justify the purchase. |

The stock dme and alpina flash limits torque while brake boosting, th boost wil go to about 2 PSI around half throttle, then if you go above that, the torque limiter kicks in and lowers boost to near zero. It sucks. However, the MHD coupled with the xHP flash turns this off. The car will brake boost to 12-14 PSI and when you launch, its violent. So be careful with it but it squeals the front tires and explodes forward. The newest stage 3 xHP version doesn't work. it shifts into second and third while brake boosting. Use the next to latest version and it's fine.
Best launches I have seen are brake boost to 10 PSI in M1 and shift to 2nd at 5500. The XI will cut a 1.75 and there's more in it but I'm afraid at this level of breaking something. Last edited by jetdriven; 06-04-2017 at 01:02 PM.. |

My method is brake boost in M1 to around 2200 to 2500 and then let the transmission shift by itself from 1st to 2nd. After that I manually shift at 6500.

If the CDV on the manual cars is any indication of how the BMW engineers are thinking about the cars, I'd be VERY reluctant to launch one of these without a remapped transmission.
You may want to talk to the guys playing with the transmission tunes to see what the 1st and 2nd gear clutch engagement is programmed to do before you tear your auto up like that. |

I'm glad I found this thread. Was actually about to post my own but searched a bit. I just ran my e90 X Drive 6AT a few weeks ago, and could not get a solid 60ft at all. I think my best 60ft was a 2.05 ish.
The car has a Dinan STG 3 tune, Alpina trans flash and BMS filters. I was pretty disappointed because I figured it had a 1.9 60 ft and low 13 second time-slip. But, ended the night with a 13.6 @ 103 and that 2.05 60ft. I just did sport mode and brake boosted it a good bit. Maybe I was a bit overzealous with a low 13 sec time?

All traction off completely, s1, brake boost at 2500,and take off, let transmission change into 2nd on its own and after that manual shift urself at 5700 2-5th.pulled multiple 1.7 60ft with this setup. Ran 12.2@110 with just jb4 and intakes
