Gas Cap message

Hi Guys,

So I've got my car back from the accident last Friday I immediately filled her up (thought I did the pump stopped but was only at 3/4 a tank) and with in 5 miles I got a loose gas cap loose error and a P0442 codes I cleared the codes/ check the cap and the error message and codes came back the next day. I checked it again and cleared the codes. I got the error message yesterday again for the 3rd time but no CEL light? I noticed I am now below half a tank and no cel or message this morning, I had been seeing the message and error with in 5 miles, I've gone 60 since the " Loose cap" message yesterday. Could I truly have a faulty gas cap? Thank you

1) Not sure if it would throw a different code or not, but I'd check the EVAP: http://www.pelicanparts.com/BMW/tech..._Replacing.htm

2) check your fuel filler neck for wear if you have meaty tires on the car.

3) Buy a new cap and try again?

I was thinking of getting a gas cap and seeing what happens, I still have warranty on the car so if the cap didn't work I'll bring it in, Just trying to avid that as I just got the car back after almost a month! An is has to go back cause it doesn't ride right .

I mean, the gas cap should only be like $25 and a local autoparts store probably has one in stock. If it were me, that would be the first thing to try.
