Dde delete / no start with a twist
Gr8white had this issue in 2015.

I am also having the exact same issues with my car starting yesterday! I rebuilt the engine last month and for the past 1500 miles engine has been strong ( piston rings gave out). I too have JR delete with stage 2setup and down pipe installed 18 months ago. Engine would not start after a short coffee break yesterday morning. Has the exact same codes as above. After few minutes, the car started. Got to work( 40 miles later), turned off engine then would crank but not start. Tried 2 more times throughout the day with the same issue, cranks but does not start with all the trouble codes coming up. Called tow truck to take it home, when the truck arrived, car started! Car started this morning with no issues but codes still remain. Where do I start looking for the problem? Guy |

Ensure your dde connections are secure. If I were you I would disconnect and reconnect all connections. Otherwise give Andrew at aarodriguez a ring, he may be able to help diagnose of fix your dde, if needed. Good luck

I had a no start issue on my 2012 TDI. after a good drive and a short sitting time the car would not restart...
car would crank then start to fire over and sputter and instantly die out every time ... after a 1-3 minute waiting period I could retry and the car would fire off like nothing happened. car ran and drove fine before and after no cel. the newer battery I had was not putting out the proper voltage during cranking and the computer didn't like it at all. don't know if the BMW's are the picky about voltages during starting, but maybe this is a possibility?????? |

Hmm, do you think water got in by the ecu? I know it's doubtful but sometimes the crappy plastic cracks, if you had rain recently it's worth a check.
Next tine it happens, try ignition on and off a few times without pressing brake. Then try. Maybe the main ecu relay is going out. It's near the dde. On the tdi, relay 109 would act up like this. |

Did you check the relays near the dde? There's 2, I forget which is dde.
To test them you need an ohm meter and a 9v battery... Touch the 9v to the coil leads 85+86, the ohm meter to the common(30) and 87 no contact. Should read less than 1ohm when coil energized. You can see the terminal numbers on the relay near the contacts and some have diagrams on the side Terminal/Pin number Connection 85 Coil 86 Coil 87 Normally Open (NO) 87a Normally Closed (NC) - not present on 4 pin relays 30 Common connection to NO & NC terminals |

One of the first things that I had done was check all the connections on the dde,
The fuses next to the dde and replaced the blue relay next to the dde. Crank but no start |

Seeing how the original post had other modules, not just dde problems with communication, perhaps the main battery relays are not coming on to provide power to those modules as well.
I'm not sure the details of them on the e90, in the e70 they are located in the rear side panel. |

I think I have found the problem.
After wording my question differently, I got to a post where a gentleman had a no start issue with a different tune than JR's. He added def fluid and it started. I did the same and my car started! After back and forth emails with JR, it was noted that there could have been an error coding. JR told me to send my unit to Aa Rodriguez for an upgrade to resolve the issue free of charge! Should have my dde back either Monday or Tuesday. Will report then. Thanks for all the information everyone posts on this site! |

That was short lived!
Got the computer back from AA Rodriquez ( thanks for the great service) Car started with no issues. Left it for 2 days, won't start!! When trying to start the car, there would be a long pause before the engine cranks, Would get a flashing park indicator light after attempt followed by the errors in the photos. Attached are two photos of what is coming up on the dash. The last image is the car on the lift. Any help would be appreciated. |

I had something very similar happen once and and only once but my code was for EKP over voltage. I have not dug into it yet but will be this week. I have a feeling it’s my battery, it’s on it’s last leg. I feel like battery can make the car do stupid things as we have seen trying to code things with not enough voltage etc. I’d get a meter and test voltage from the fuel pump under the seats and the EKP see what you have there. I have seen at least one thread of an EKP frying. Good luck and keep us posted!

Okay
Reason for a specialist at this point Went thru everything possible that can control the engine in a no start situation Today, changes the crankshaft position sensor just in case-had 147k on it Made sure def tanks were filled. Made sure low pressure fuel pump was working using Ebias Using impa, I came up With the following error codes, none of which should not cause this no start Very frustrating |

I saw before that some one had an issue with his ekp fuel module causing other issues like no start, due to low voltage. The battery is annoyingly the default answer but you could have a bad harmonic balance causing the alternator from charging properly leading to low voltage. There's threads that show how a cracked/bad one looks like.. One guy didn't even know and was chasing down battery and alternator issues!
Try putting a battery charger on for a while and try starting with it on, checking voltage with a volt meter if engine starts. Also, inpa has problems with our dde, it's better to use Rheingold aka ista-d from here: http://cartechnology.co.uk/showthread.php?tid=24686 free registration but if you have a problem getting the torrent pm me and i will send you the torrent file You can skip these: Sdp (for f series) Ista-p for flashing/programming modules And you only need the EN and other in the sqlitedb folder. You don't need RU or DE files Inside tools folder is a faq pdf that explains how to set it up |
