We show you RM/Sotheby's Auction at Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este...
Cernobbio, Italy...
The RM/Sotheby's Auction event at Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este, was off the charts as far as any car guys go. For me I always look forward to see what gems are on display(& for sale!) There was something for everyone here. The prices were unreal - as they are at these types of events. You will never see some of these cars again, because these "gems" will (most likely)be locked up away in someone's collection. But at least I can share with you what I saw at Villa Erba. The Concorso d'Eleganza is held over at Villa d'Este but down the street at Villa Erba - Exhibition Center - is where mere "peasants" can go to see some really awesome cars!! It's at Villa Erba that is open to the (paying)public on Sunday. All the cars from Villa d'Este, are moved over to Erba. Every year BMW Classic takes over the small town of Cernobbio on the shores of Lake Como for the entire weekend. The Concorso is one of the most difficult cars shows to get invited to, because there are only fifty two slots/entries. It must be hard for the mechanics and logistical support to make this show happen. Bravo to BMW Classic. Along with the car show... RM/Sotheby's has an auction over at Villa Erba every other year or so. Here is where I lost my mind. If there is a car heaven... it is at Villa Erba. Anyone with "Benzene in their Blood" will be happy here. Have alook for yourself. You might just loose your mind. Villa Erba...

a look before the crowds show up...
In case your curious of what your favorite car sold for... here is a link to the entire, three hour Sotheby's auction. These prices don't include the ~20% auction fee's nor any taxes or misc fee's related to the auction house. For instance, that dirty silver 911 RSR 3.8's(really found in someone barn with the original factory shipping grease/cosmoline and only 10 kms!!) end price was reported to be 2.25 million euros. Btw... IF you are interested in the final winning bid for the cars sold at Villa Erba... here is the official RM/Sotheby's website results from the auction! www.rmsothebys.com/ve17/villa-erba/results/

Dackelone,
You are awesome man!! Always posting us these remarkable photo journals. Tell us more about that RSR... why is it special and anything about its history. If I could ever afford a collectible car, I would hope to have an F40. Since I was 14 years old I have known of it and admired everything about it. I remember reading in the news paper on a Sunday morning about that car - being a kid who did not even drive. The information was that it could travel to 200 kph in 12 seconds. I never forgot that. Thanks for the awesome pics!! |

That RSR needed no explanation. I'd lick that thing clean with my own tongue.

Dude, I was there for the events to cover them for the magazine I write for.
It would have been a pleasure to meet you and chat. I was in Italy for 10 days and all over the place. And great pictures as usual. I will return next year so maybe we can coordinate to meet. Drinks are on me! |

They were getting specific information to bid later that evening. It was clearly the car people were most interested in. |

But I am a Porsche guy... and that Green Ruf park behind the hotel was my favorite car of the weekend. Quote:
That 911 RSR... Only 10kms(!), found in some barn, the very last of the aircooled RSR's. No wonder why it sold for 2.25 million euros. But that 959 was a steal at under 1 million. Quote:
What magazine do you write for>? Send me a PM. My next event will be the IAA Frankfurt Auto Show in September. Maybe I will see you there. Quote:
As I left that area on Sunday afternoon... the traffic backup went on for about 15kms. I could not believe everyone was trying to get into Villa Erba to see the cars there. BMW puts on quite an event! the crowds on Sunday... Dackel

Dackel, awesome photos again loving so many of the cars. Is that an Aston Martin Zagato? I'm always drawn to the Audi Quattro - loved those cars. The 959.... only saw one on the road probably will never again! The purple Lambo... such a cool special edition.... saw one at a car show when they released them.... I guess someone got bored of their LaFerrari already shame the used for investment.
Great photos, what a backdrop! Thanks for the trip down memory lane. The RSR is super cool. Needs to be driven!
