No More Public Tours!!!
I got notified that my temporary delivery date is April 3rd. But what I also found out is that for the rest of the year all factory tours have been canceled , due to NEW DEVELOPMENT!! This really pissed me off. I was looking forward to that tour. I mean Performance Center should be a great experience anyway, but still. Well figured I'd just let you people know so that if you where planning on doing the tour, Your Not.

Initially this was because of the new M Roadster and Z4 Coupes, but the new X5 SOP is 09/06. There are prototypes and test mules within the factory in Greer, SC. |

This is what the letter said:
Please inform your customer that BMW Manufacturing has temporarily cancelled public tours of the factory while new models are under development. We are very excited about the new developments for the plant and we hope you understand the need for us to protect company secrets. Information about new models and a date for the resumption of public tours will be announced at the appropriate time. I just took delivery yesterday at the Performance Center. Yes, it was a bummer that the factory tour was cancelled. However, when taking the museum tour, they have a very nice movie of the production of the Z4 and X5. It lasted about 15 minutes. I am not sure if it was intended as a "replacement" but it was well done and I got to see what I would have wanted to see from the factory tour.
Also, between taking delivery, the driving lessons and the museum tour, adding in the factory tour makes for a very long day, especially when you want to go drive your new baby! Anyway, hope that helps...
