Layperson photo tips

Hey,

I was just wondering if anyone could give me some tips on shooting in the sun, and Capturing good reflection from the car, etc (There is a reflection)

No flaming and please be simple. I have a digital 3.1 Sony point and shoot camera.

I tried to search, but just found a lot of technical information.

Turn off the flash. Step back. Try to get a day with medium cloud cover - but sun as well. Shoot at around 2:30-4 with the sun at about a 30 angle from you. Stay clear of trees. And experiment! Take 200 shots at different exposures etc. Then forget what I said and do crazy stuff for the next 200 shots. You'll be glad you did - and it doesn't cost anything now that film is free!

The biggest problem is that a point and shoot has basically unlimited depth. The best shots convey depth and generally - in my opinion utilize depth of field to do so. I would recommend upgrading to a Nikon d40 or d60 if you can afford it. D80 if you want to really have fun. But get a dslr. Hell, return it in 2 weeks and you get your shots for free. But take advantage of a bigger lens and enjoy the results. All it takes is one great photo to make a photographer! You'll have nothing to lose....

Please post your pics when your done so we can see the results! Good luck.

Here's a link to a car photo shooting guide, specifically for digital SLR's but many tips apply to any camera.

Hope that helps.

Thanks guys. I did a pretty decent job on a car and while I am definitely not a pro, I would like to get better shots of the cars I detail.

Thanks for the tips!
