PE Muffler
Hello.
I found someone selling the performance exhaust for $450. However, it is only the muffler part. Should I get it? Also, it came off a 2011 328i. Would it fit a 2007? |

Yes you can have an exhaust shop install a generic midpipe/ y-pipe for much cheaper than buying the BMW one. It's just a few inches of 3" tubing that replaces the stock resonator.

I might just go that route then. So $450 would be a good deal? Also, to clarify, it came off a 2011, so it would fit a 2007 too? Sorry, I'm new. |

What's your end game with an exhaust? Just looking for a better sound? You won't get any power out of the PE exhaust system, so just want to make that clear (at least without going headers or straight pipes along with it). |

Considering that the PE costs at least $1000 new, I would say that is a good deal as long as there is nothing wrong with it. The exhaust setup should be the same for all e90 325i/328i models as far as I know.

Just note that I have the full cat back with the Y pipe, euro air box and BPC N51 tune, but anything manual is always fun to drive in my opinion.
There is also the PE mod where you cut your muffler open and wrap the innards and weld it shut. For the cost of the pe muffler that mod could be another option at a lower price with the same-ish result. |

You know, Magnafow makes a very nice cat-back kit for the 328Xi that's pretty nice, all stainless, lifetime warranty for about $600.
Amazon Prime Link Magnaflow has always made really nice sounding exhausts. I couldn't find a 328i/xi vid, but this gives you an idea. Last edited by NiNeTyOne; 06-19-2017 at 01:58 PM.. |

I'm seriously debating on swallowing the $1000 pill and ordering a brand new PE muffler. I had a custom Magnaflow setup that sounded amazing on my E36 328i with full bolt ons, but the 2000-3000 rpm low speed drone was a little much at my age (32) vs when I bought the car at 21. |

you can replace your secondary cats with dual resonators, cut out your factory x-pipe and use a better quality stainless steel one. lastly swap out the muffler. while magnaflow's low, deep note is really well suited to the sound of the n52, there is some drone. (personally I dont find it intrusive because I have a res, but everyones tastes are different) it's well made for its price, but not very good quality. you can find something well made for only a little more like Borla etc and save yourself tons of money while getting a better sound. take a look at the videos below for reference": here is a video with a magnaflow muffler and nothing else now, watch the video with this same muffler but a secondary cat delete well. do note that both the vehicles are a sedan which have a resonator. your coupe has an x-pipe in place of your resonator. your's will sound better but you may want some resonators. all this will cost you almost half the price of just a damn muffler but you'll actually feel and hear the exhaust flowing. |
