I got my car a year ago and I am wondering if there is a new IPOD software update. There a bunch of issues with the current release including:

- It takes forever to load the full list of artists. Not sure if this can be fixed.
- Songs start over when I turn off and on the car.
- It takes forever to scroll through all songs or artists.

Just wondering if this has been improved. I am taking my car in for the 1 year checkup and I am going to push them to instill new software/firmware if it is available.

Let us know if successful - I tried once, and all they did was re-install the version I had.

That's unlikely. They only can install the latest version - if your car were four months old, let's say, they can't go back and install that version.

You mightn't perceive the differences but it would be truly weird if they somehow managed to install an older version.

I complained of lists (ipod and phone) too long to scroll, scrolling got stuck some times, etc etc - and they said they would re-install the software.

I didn't see any changes whatsoever - did they lie, then? perhaps they didn't do squat.

You should see on the invoice what work they performed but there is no incentive for them to lie.

Depending on whether you have the 6FL option or the MOST bus retrofit, some of the problems simply aren't addressable, esp. with the latter.

this is a stupid question, but what exactly does 6FL stand for?

It is the internal BMW option code for the ipod/usb interface in the E90's and E60's and is used on the build sheet for that specific option.

All those issues were fixed with a progman update. Get them to fix it!

While we're on the topic of 6FL issues, does anyone know if this one is fixed:

I don't have iDrive, but do have 6FL. I scroll by artist to the W's and choose 'The Whigs' (it takes a long time to do this as I have a lot of songs on my ipod). I listen and get to track 5 before I shut down the car for [insert reason here].

When I restart the car, 'The Whigs' are still playing, but I no longer have the option of navigating up a level (i.e. from song list to album). Instead, I have options to scroll by artist, song, album, etc. So if I want to listen to another 'W' artist, I have to scroll all the way to the W's from A again. Basically, I have to start over again.

It's infuriating.
