320d Performance Power Kit (184bhp)
Hi all,
Sorry if this has been asked before but I haven't been able to find an exact answer. Does anyone have any experience with the BMW Performance Power Kit on an LCI 320d (184bhp)? I'm trying to understand what kind of performance gains this might give in terms of bhp/torque, 0-60, 60-100 times, etc. but I can't find anything concrete online. I can find official BMW figures for the kit on the 177bhp car - apparently it can take about half a second off 0-60. I can't find any official figures (or unofficial figures for that matter) for the power kit on the 184bhp car, but am I right in thinking that the only difference between the stock 177bhp and 184bhp engine is a slightly more aggressive ECU map, so the Performance Power Kit (or a remap in general) will give proportionately smaller power gains on the 184bhp car than the 177bhp? In other words will a 184 bhp car with the Power Kit end up with the same power output as a 177bhp with the Power Kit? Any thoughts welcome! Last edited by CitizenKane; 07-03-2017 at 01:32 PM.. |

I had it on my old 320d. I think the figures were 200-205bhp. You get a complete new ECU with new longer gear ratios so pulls better on the motorway.
I was doing lots of miles, didn't want to change my car and keep my warranty intact. |

Have a read of this: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=562073
I'm not sure about the longer gear ratio statement above, the only way the gear ratios would be affected are by swapping the gearbox (irrespective whether manual or auto) or swapping the rear diff. Neither of those things are part of the kit. |

Yes just to clarify this was for an auto. Also when reading reviews all cars with the 184bhp engine have the upgraded torque converter so need to upgrade it as part of the upgrade.

Thanks for the replies. Mine is an auto also.
If anyone's interested I heard back from my local BMW main dealer who have quoted the following performance figures for the 184bhp car (km/h). -0.3 seconds off 0-100 -0.6 seconds off 80-120 I was also quoted just over €1,200 (around £1,000), which is less than I was expecting but still seems pretty steep for what are fairly modest performance increases. |

If your not doing big miles and dont have a warranty with BMW, a remap will be cheaper and get better gains. A remap for these cars will still require the ECU to come out so you will be looking at £300-500 roughly.
I got my PPK cheaper as I bought it separate and got an indy to fit. Also this was before brexit. |

No issues at all. I would speak to an Indy who has experience of installing PPKs, swapping the ECU can be a bit tricky if you don't know what your doing

I've been looking at alternative options to the OEM performance kit and the AC Schnitzer performance upgrade has caught my eye because it looks to give some pretty impressive numbers (according to their website it can bring the engine up to nearly 220bhp and 455nM) while not affecting the BMW warranty.
This sounds pretty ideal but I can't find any pricing info and I assume it would cost silly money. Does anyone have any experience with this kit for this engine (or any other engine for that matter)? |

Tuning
You can get a dt uk tuning box as this is very good similar to a remap and can be taken out anytime and put back to keep the warranty intact

I have the performance kit on my e91 320d and also have a standard e90 320d. In all honesty you dont notice a massive difference, it's a little easier to drive and a bit more torque lower down 1-2.5rpm. Although you don't feel the differences too much in the driving seat outside is a different matter. Both of mine rolling together the e91 with the kit pretty much leaves the e90 3-4 car lengths behind 0-70mph.
For the money of the kit though as said I'd recommend DT UK their gains seem pretty similar for a fraction of the price. |

It's a shame you don't live close to me. I'd let you plug in my Racechip CR02 box. They claim 232 Bhp, can't prove it, but it makes a big difference. Also you could have checked out my replica BMWP splitter on a black E92
